Yen Chau has over 3,340 hectares of mangoes, with an expected output of 24,990 tons in 2025, mainly round mangoes, stinky mangoes, Australian and Taiwanese; of which, 207 hectares are certified by VietGAP, GlobalGAP and organic; 298 hectares are assigned growing area codes for export to markets in China, Australia, the US and New Zealand.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment and the District Agricultural Service Center promote the dissemination of benefits and instruct people on effective fruit bagging techniques and how to choose bags suitable for each mango variety.
Mango growers in Yen Chau also proactively apply science and technology in production; invest in modern processing and preparation systems; apply automatic irrigation systems, produce according to safe processes; especially apply fruit wrapping methods to improve product quality. Depending on each mango variety, there will be different types of bags. The type of bag currently chosen by many households to wrap mangoes is non-woven fabric bags, paper bags, with prices ranging from 800 - 1,000 VND/bag. The advantages of these types of bags are that they are durable, airy, and can be reused for 1 - 2 crops.
From the time the mangoes bear fruit for 40 days, households will start to bag the fruit. Depending on the market, different methods and types of bags will be applied. For example, the Chinese market favors Taiwanese mangoes and dark green Australian mangoes, so they use white cloth or paper bags; the American market favors yellow mangoes, so they use 2-layer paper bags, with the outside yellow and the inside charcoal black...
Fruit wrapping will keep mango products shiny, scratch-free, and prevent mold; reduce the rate of damaged and prematurely falling fruits; limit harmful agents such as insects, weather, and fungi, helping farmers reduce production costs, create safe products, protect the health of producers and consumers, and contribute to improving design, quality, and income.
Every year, nearly 70% of the mango area in Yen Chau district is covered with fruit, and Yen Chau mango products are well received in many markets. In 2024, over 11,000 tons of mangoes will be consumed in the domestic market; 4,000 tons of fruit will be exported to foreign markets, worth over 33 billion VND.
In the 2025 mango crop, Yen Chau district strives to consume 19,900 tons domestically and export 5,000 tons of fruit. Applying mango bagging technique is an effective solution to improve quality, ensure productivity and increase economic value for Yen Chau mango.
