The National Museum of History opens the thematic exhibition “Thien Mon Dance – Buddhist Art of the Ly Dynasty: Heritage and Technology”

On the morning of May 16, 2025, the opening ceremony of the exhibition "Zen Dance - Buddhist Art of the Ly Dynasty: Heritage and Technology" took place at the National Museum of History. The event was organized by the National Museum of History in coordination with the Asian Civilization Research Institute and CMYK Vietnam Co., Ltd., on the occasion of the International Museum Day and Vietnam Science and Technology Day (May 18); the 135th anniversary (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2025) of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday.

Attending the opening ceremony were Prof. Dr. Luu Tran Tieu - Chairman of the National Cultural Heritage Council; Mr. Dang Ha Viet, Director of the Department of Science, Technology, Training and Environment, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism ; Mr. Pham Dinh Phong - Deputy Director of the Department of Cultural Heritage, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Associate Professor Dr. Pham Mai Hung - Vice President of the Vietnam Historical Science Association; Associate Professor Dr. Bui Minh Tri, Director of the Institute of Asian Civilization Studies; Most Venerable Thich Tho Lac, Head of the Central Cultural Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha; Mr. Pham Trung Hung, Director of CMYK Vietnam Company Limited; Dr. Nguyen Van Doan - Director of the National Museum of History; representatives of a number of units, museums, relics, researchers, and the participation of news agencies, newspapers, central and Hanoi television stations.

The exhibition introduces 13 of the most unique artifacts of Buddhist art of the Ly Dynasty (1009-1225) currently preserved at the National Museum of History on four aspects of Buddhist art of the Ly Dynasty including: Pagoda and tower architecture, Buddhist sculpture, Buddhist music and dance, and ceramic art combined with the application of modern technology such as hologram, 3D mapping, digital revival and artificial intelligence (AI).

With a fresh approach, combining in-depth scientific research and modern performance technology, the exhibition brings the public a multi-sensory experience, from sight, hearing to the depth of cultural and historical perception. The motifs on the artifacts are vividly reproduced through digital technology, along with vivid interpretations, helping viewers, especially the younger generation, easily access history and traditional culture in a creative and engaging way; feel the heritage as living entities, clearly visualizing a brilliant period of Buddhist art during the Ly Dynasty.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr. Nguyen Van Doan emphasized: “With typical artifacts, selected from the Ly Dynasty Buddhist heritage preserved at the National History Museum, containing the most unique values ​​of Ly Dynasty Buddhist art, with interpretations and projections using modern techniques, the exhibition aims to contribute to the restoration, regeneration and revival of extremely valuable cultural heritages, hoping to bring visitors new, deeper and more attractive experiences”.

The exhibition is open to visitors until July 2025.
