If someone asks “What is happiness?”, it is difficult to give a complete definition. For young people, happiness can be just a free afternoon going to a coffee shop with friends. For parents, it is seeing their children healthy and well-behaved. For people living in urban areas like Hanoi , sometimes happiness is just a morning without traffic jams, clear sky and we have time to finish a cup of hot coffee. Happiness is not noisy, not luxurious, it is right next to us, sometimes it is just a feeling of peace in the very small things of life.
Perhaps it is because of the simplicity of happiness that Vietnam has been continuously rising in international rankings in recent years. According to the World Happiness Report 2025, Vietnam ranked 46th out of 143 countries - the highest position ever. This is assessed based on the level of satisfaction with life, social support, healthy life expectancy, sense of freedom and trust in the community. In Southeast Asia, Vietnam is even in the leading group in terms of happiness index. Hanoi, in particular, surprisingly entered the group of "happiest" and friendliest cities in Asia. Recent surveys show that the majority of Hanoians feel love for where they live, clearly feel the community connection and believe that their lives are getting better every year.
Looking back at those numbers, we see that choosing Hanoi as the venue for the "Vietnam Happy Fest 2025 - Happy Vietnam Festival" is not only reasonable but also very meaningful. Hanoi is a city with a rich memory, cultural depth and the ability to open up to new things. In the midst of a crowded, modern city, sometimes we can easily come across simple moments: an old lady practicing yoga by the lake, a young couple taking wedding photos on the banks of the Pen Tower, a middle-aged man diligently walking his dog every morning... those images, no matter how small, all contribute to creating a feeling of "happiness" in a very Hanoi way.
This year's "Vietnam Happy Fest 2025 - Happy Vietnam Festival" event will take place for 3 days, from December 5-7, on the Hoan Kiem Lake walking street, Hanoi, with a series of diverse and emotional activities. The "Vietnam Happy Fest 2025" space is arranged along the streets of Le Thai To - Hang Khay - Dinh Tien Hoang - Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square. Participants will experience 13 points on the "happy road" with many activities such as: Happy Vietnam exhibition; digital interactive space; photobooth and art exhibition; happy tree - a place to send wishes; happy prism workshop...
One of the highlights of the festival was the mass wedding ceremony of 80 couples with the theme “Couple Day - Love is Happiness” taking place on December 6. This is not only an event for young couples, but also honors couples who have been together for decades - beautiful evidence of the strength and understanding in love.
On December 7, the Vietnamese costume parade "Hundred Flowers Walking" gathered about 800 participants, creating a vibrant and proud traditional cultural space.
The best thing about the festival is the feeling that it is open to everyone. No need for tickets, no need for fancy costumes, no distinction of age or profession... anyone passing by Hoan Kiem Lake can stop for a moment, write a wish on a small card, take a photo, listen to a song or see others smile. In a city that is often in a hurry, sometimes just a few minutes of slowing down like that is enough to make the heart feel a little lighter.
And perhaps the biggest impact of the festival is not in the brilliant activities, but in the way it helps Hanoi shape itself as a humane city - where happiness is something that every citizen can share and spread. This festival also contributes to renewing the image of Hanoi in the eyes of international friends: a city that is both traditional and modern, dynamic and emotional, and most importantly, a city that cares about the quality of life of its people.
When going through those festive days, many people will realize a simple thing: happiness actually does not need to be searched for, but it is always there, just waiting for us to turn back and recognize. And in the middle of the crowded Hoan Kiem Lake, in the music, the laughter, the sound of people wishing each other peace, who knows, you will find a small moment of happiness, but enough to warm the heart for a long time.
