Yen Tu National Forest There are more than 2,730 hectares of forest and forestry land with over 800 species of plants, 150 species of animals, including many rare and endemic species such as: Green Lim, Tau Mat, Sao Hon Gai, Hong Tung, Mai Vang Yen Tu, crocodile lizard... With these outstanding values, Yen Tu National Forest is on the list of prohibited forests in Decision No. 194/CT dated August 9, 1986 of the Chairman of the Council of Ministers.
In order to protect and develop forests sustainably, in recent years, the Management Board of Yen Tu Monuments and National Forest has regularly organized forest patrols and inspections to promptly detect and handle cases of illegal hunting and exploitation of forest products; strengthened forest protection stations, invested in equipment for forest fire prevention and control, such as blowers and foam fire extinguishers; coordinated with local authorities to organize propaganda and raise awareness among people and tourists about the role of forests for nature, people and ecosystems through public meetings, commune and ward loudspeaker systems, billboards, posters, etc.
In addition, support local people to build conventions to protect forests and natural resources in villages; develop eco-tourism; models of fruit tree planting, agroforestry, technology transfer to develop Yen Tu yellow apricot varieties into commodities... to completely overcome the situation of people encroaching on natural forest land for slash-and-burn cultivation.
On average, each year, the Management Board of Yen Tu Monuments and National Forests encloses and promotes natural forest regeneration of 2,200 hectares. Currently, Yen Tu National Forest still retains almost intact the primeval forest ecosystem, becoming a green lung to regulate the air, minimizing environmental pollution for the area. Uong Bi City .
Quang Ninh currently has 7 special-use forests with a total area of 30,034 hectares, including: Yen Tu National Forest, Dong Son - Ky Thuong Nature Reserve, Bai Tu Long National Park, Yen Lap Pine Forest, Special-use Forest for Protecting Ha Long Bay Landscape, Dong Rui Wetland Reserve (Tien Yen District) and Quang Nam Chau Nature Reserve and Biodiversity Conservation Area (Hai Ha District).
Special-use forests are not only important in preserving biodiversity, but also play a role in protecting the ecological environment, scientific research and developing ecotourism and nature-friendly experiential tourism.
Implementing Resolution No. 19-NQ/TU dated November 28, 2019 of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee on sustainable forestry development in Quang Ninh province to 2025, with a vision to 2030, from 2020 to present, the province has coordinated with the Vietnam Forestry Science Institute to deploy 19 scientific tasks for sustainable forestry development and 20 tasks for gene conservation, intellectual property development related to forest protection and development; implementing the Project to improve capacity for forest management, protection, and forest fire prevention and control according to Decision No. 177/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister, including investing in many technological equipment for resource management and monitoring and forest fire prevention and control.
Promoting the core role in forest management and protection, from 2020 to present, the provincial forest rangers have handled 407 administrative violations in the forestry sector, collecting more than 4.2 billion VND for the budget (a decrease of 587 cases compared to the period 2015-2019); of which 12 criminal cases have been prosecuted for forest destruction under Article 243 of the Penal Code.
The provincial forest rangers have strengthened the management and protection of forest plants and animals, especially endangered, precious and rare species, thereby limiting the hunting and trapping of migratory birds. Before 2020, the whole province had only 46 facilities raising rare and precious wildlife. Now there are 125 facilities raising wild animals, an increase of 272% compared to before the issuance of Resolution 19-NQ/TU, contributing to the conservation of genetic resources and reducing pressure from illegal exploitation of forests.
