After an unsuccessful 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, the Chinese Football Association (CFA) decided to fire coach Branko Ivankovic. At the recent East Asian Football Cup in South Korea, the Chinese team was led by interim coach Dejan Djurdjevic, who also coached the Chinese U20 team.
The Chinese team's continued lack of success forced the CFA to continue searching for a new strategist, and the media of the billion-people country unexpectedly nominated Philippe Troussier, former head coach of the Vietnamese team.

The article titled: “Is Troussier expected to become the new head coach of the Chinese national football team?” was posted on Sohu, and the content stated:
"The question of when the new head coach of the Chinese national football team will officially take office is attracting great attention from fans. At the East Asian Football Cup, expectations for Djurdjevic, who led the national youth team to the quarterfinals of the Asian Youth Championship, were very high. However, his unimpressive performance in this tournament, when the Chinese team only won one match, did not please the CFA.
As a result, Djurjevic was reassigned to lead the National Youth Team. Meanwhile, the CFA is actively searching for a suitable new coach who can lead the national team to the success it deserves.
Among the potential candidates, famous French coach Troussier has been mentioned many times. He expressed strong interest in leading the Chinese national team and is confident that he can lead the team to the World Cup finals.
While Troussier's assertive personality may raise some concerns about his managerial abilities, he meets the CFA's requirements for a new coach, especially with his extensive experience in the Chinese Super League and Asian football.

Having coached both Japan and Vietnam, Troussier has a deep understanding of Asian football. Furthermore, his many years of coaching experience at Shenzhen FC have given him a deep understanding of Chinese football. Therefore, Troussier meets two important requirements of the CFA for a new national team coach. He has also recently been invited to teach at Dalian University of Technology and has received a warm reception from students.
In short, Troussier is considered an excellent choice for the position of head coach of the Chinese national team in all aspects. The important issue now is whether the Chinese Football Association is willing to invite him to lead.
At the age of 70, Troussier may retire right after leading the national team to the 2030 World Cup. If given the chance, he is expected to lead the team to great success."
