Barca signs super contract with Yamal |
The contract will come into effect on July 13 - when Yamal turns 18. And from then on, this young talent can earn up to 20 million euros per year, if all the terms are met. The contract details include a fixed salary of 10 million euros/year, a 25 million euro signing-on fee - divided equally over 6 years, individual and collective bonuses - even a bonus if he wins the Ballon d'Or.
With these figures, Yamal is on par with - and even surpasses - the likes of Lewandowski and De Jong in terms of total earnings. While Lewandowski has reduced his salary to €26 million (before tax) and De Jong receives €22 million plus bonuses, Yamal is on track to become the highest-paid player in the team - at the age of under 18.
However, this contract is not fixed until 2031. Barca and Yamal have agreed to renegotiate after 2 seasons, if the young player achieves big goals - meaning the possibility of further salary increases.
But with this blockbuster comes financial pressure. Financial Fair Play is still tightening its grip on Barca. Even though the club is about to return to a "1:1" mechanism after La Liga approved a VIP area at Spotify Camp Nou, Yamal's salary is enough to give the finance department a headache.
In the long-term strategy, Sports Director Deco and Coach Hansi Flick plan to keep the pillars before thinking about shopping. So far, Barca has successfully renewed the contracts of Yamal, Cubarsi, Fermin Lopez, Raphinha, Casado, Gavi, and is promoting the final steps with Frenkie de Jong.
Barca are betting big on Yamal – not just professionally, but financially. At 17, he has barely played 90 minutes, but he already has the weight of a generation on his shoulders. And if he continues to develop as he is, the football world could be witnessing the rise of a true superstar.
