Fly over Hoi An heritage site

For the first time, a paragliding competition was held in the ancient town of Hoi An, opening up the prospect of maintaining a unique annual sporting event as well as providing a new experience to stimulate tourists to Hoi An, Quang Nam.

The paragliding performance and competition "Connecting the sky" Quang Nam - Green heritage land 2025 took place on June 5 & 6, organized by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with Hoi An Bay Sports Tourism Company Limited.

The event will take place at Hoi An Impression Theme Park and Nam Ngan Islet (Cam Nam Ward, Hoi An City). In addition to the flying demonstration, on the afternoon of June 6, there will also be a flying tug-of-war competition in rounds 1, 2, 3, and 4 to score points and award prizes to the athletes.

The highlight of the event is that in addition to 21 pilots from domestic paragliding clubs, there are also 10 international pilots who are tourists from Thailand, Laos, Australia, Singapore and New Zealand participating in the competition and experience.

Mr. Wayne Bagnall - a pilot from Australia shared: "Admiring the beauty of Hoi An heritage from the sky at an altitude of about 200m is a very special experience even though I have been paragliding for 10 years. In just a few dozen minutes, I have glided through many impressive scenes from the sea, coconut forests, rivers to the ancient town".

The paragliding competition is the start of a special festival program to activate Quang Nam Culture, Sports and Tourism Days this year.

Ms. Than Thi Thu Huyen - Executive Director of Hoi An Memory Island - the main organizer of the event, said that the preparation for this event took about 5 months, from coming up with ideas, preparing infrastructure, working with service providers... For the first time in Vietnam, there will be an event combining special effects and performance technology on a live stage.

“The program will be a combination of the number 6. The event will take place on June 6 with 600 drones performing, 60 minutes of the new version of Hoi An Memories show, 6 minutes of paragliding pyrotechnics and 6 minutes of fireworks,” said Ms. Huyen.

Recently, the demand for developing adventure sports experience services in Quang Nam has been quite large, however, for many reasons, these products are still absent.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hong - Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that the event, held for the first time in Quang Nam, is an opportunity to build and expand new tourism products to serve tourists and those who love motorized and non-motorized paragliding to experience.

It is known that since the beginning of June this year, Hoi An Memory Island has also launched a paragliding experience package for tourists at a price of more than 2 million VND combined with tickets to see the show "Hoi An Memories" and has initially been welcomed and ordered by tourists, especially international tourists who love adventure. This unit hopes that this will be a new highlight to stimulate demand and attract more tourists to Hoi An in particular and Quang Nam in general.
