Implementing the Resolution of the 11th Provincial Party Congress, term 2020 - 2025, since 2020, Ben Tre has clearly identified the strategy of developing aquaculture using CNC as the key direction for coastal areas. After nearly 5 years of implementation, the brackish water shrimp farming area using CNC in the whole province has reached 4,133 hectares, exceeding the set target. This result marks a strong step forward in innovating the growth model of the local agricultural sector.
Coastal districts such as Binh Dai, Thanh Phu and Ba Tri are the leading localities in developing this model. Of which, Binh Dai district has 2,051 hectares, Thanh Phu has 1,562 hectares and Ba Tri has 520 hectares. The total output in the first 6 months of 2025 is estimated at 38,400 tons, with an average yield of 50 tons/ha, showing the high, stable and sustainable economic efficiency of the CNC farming model.
For sustainable development, the province has synchronously planned concentrated farming areas. Ba Tri district currently has a farming area of 222 hectares with 5 enterprises participating in investment. Thanh Phu has a 165-hectare area with 8 organizations and individuals. Binh Dai has established cooperatives and expanded production areas in Thanh Phuoc and Dai Hoa Loc communes. Thanks to the large scale and well-invested infrastructure, these farming areas are favorable for applying technology, controlling the environment and organizing production according to international standards.
Not only focusing on infrastructure and area, Ben Tre also promotes production chain linkages. The "4-house" model, including farmers, businesses, banks and managers - has been effectively implemented through workshops, cooperatives and shrimp billionaire clubs. In particular, the farming area certified by ASC and BAP has now reached 675 hectares, with more than 2,000 tons of shrimp consumed through linkages. Thanks to that, the selling price is 2,000 - 10,000 VND/kg higher than the market, increasing income and reducing risks for farmers.
Along with production organization, digital technology application is also a highlight. The project "Application of Map4D GIS Platform" was deployed to digitize the entire CNC farming area. The province has installed 14 automatic environmental monitoring stations in Ba Tri and Thanh Phu, helping to monitor 14 water parameters for early warning, supporting farmers to adjust production processes in real time. Smart technology applications, such as AI, Big Data, are also being coordinated by the Ben Tre agricultural sector to improve disease monitoring and feed management capacity.
In the coming time, the province will continue to invest in completing infrastructure for farming areas, expanding areas to meet international standards, enhancing technology transfer and supporting market connections. The agricultural sector will also focus on researching and applying smart technologies in production management, while promoting sustainable development based on the principles of green - clean - efficiency.
Exceeding the plan to develop 4,000 hectares of high-tech shrimp farming has affirmed Ben Tre's pioneering role in developing technology-based agriculture, adapting to climate change and international integration. This will be an important driving force for Ben Tre's coastal area to continuously grow, contributing to green growth, enhancing the value of the seafood industry and gradually realizing the province's sustainable development aspirations in the new period.
The success of the high-tech shrimp farming model is not only in the numbers of area, output or economic value, but also shows a fundamental shift in production thinking, from small-scale to joint venture, from traditional to modern. Coastal people have been actively participating in the closed value chain, contributing to creating clean products, meeting export standards and meeting the requirements of the world market. |
