Control air pollution, protect public health

The People's Committee of Tay Ninh province has just directed departments, branches and local authorities to synchronously deploy effective solutions to prevent, control and handle air pollution. This is a task to protect public health, limit the risk of pollution exceeding dangerous levels and raise awareness of businesses and people in environmental protection.

The directive was issued after the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment issued Official Dispatch No. 6925/BNNMT-MT, dated September 22, 2025, requesting localities to proactively strengthen measures to protect the air environment. On that basis, the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment to comprehensively review, inspect and conduct surprise inspections of production and business establishments with large emissions. The industries identified as key areas for inspection include cement, steel, construction material processing and areas with high potential for emissions.

The province requires vehicles carrying construction materials to be covered properly to limit dust spillage.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Lam emphasized: "Air environment monitoring will be comprehensively enhanced. Automatic monitoring stations will operate continuously, providing forecast data, warnings and public information to the people. When the air quality index (AQI) is likely to reach or exceed 300, the province will immediately activate response measures to reduce pollution."

Faced with the fact that dust and emissions from construction account for a large proportion of total emissions, the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Construction to strengthen on-site inspections of projects, requiring 100% of constructions to apply measures to reduce dust emissions such as covering, spraying water, and washing vehicles before leaving the construction site. Construction works that repeatedly violate the law will be temporarily suspended.

In addition, the province also requires vehicles transporting construction materials to be covered properly to limit the spillage of materials causing dust. This is considered a key solution to improve air quality on routes with high density of material transportation.

The province is promoting the implementation of “low emission zone” programs in urban areas, encouraging people to use public transport and vehicles using clean energy or renewable energy. The gradual reduction of vehicles using fossil fuels is expected to contribute to cleaning the air and reducing greenhouse gases.

Along with that, the province requires strict control of the burning of household waste and straw. Local authorities coordinate with functional forces to organize propaganda and remind people to comply with regulations.

In order to increase transparency and facilitate people's access to information, the Department of Science and Technology was assigned to coordinate the publication of air environment monitoring data on the province's electronic information portal. The publication of data helps press agencies, experts and people easily monitor and evaluate air quality in real time.

Commune and ward authorities are also required to step up propaganda and instruct people in limiting emissions, especially managing dust sources from production and construction.

The above solutions have received support from the community. Ms. Le Thi Hanh (resident of Duc Hoa commune) shared: “Dry season has a lot of dust, especially from vehicles transporting materials and construction sites. The province’s strict inspection and handling of uncovered vehicles will help the environment become cleaner. We agree.”

Not only people, but businesses also show responsibility in improving the environment. Mr. Tran Van Cuong - owner of a construction material yard, said: "We proactively cover vehicles and spray water around the yard to reduce dust. When the province synchronously deploys solutions, businesses are more responsible for compliance, both limiting violations and enhancing reputation."

With the drastic participation of management agencies and the cooperation of businesses and people, it is expected that air quality will improve significantly, contributing to protecting public health and building a cleaner, more sustainable living environment in the coming time./.
