The first hospital to deploy digital signatures for patients

Previously, the examination process for patients with chronic diseases was stable for 8 minutes, but now, when implementing digital signatures at Xanh Pon General Hospital, this process is shortened to only 5 minutes. Patients are satisfied because they save time, and the hospital is convenient in management.

On the afternoon of May 22, at the Examination Department of Xanh Pon General Hospital ( Hanoi ), many patients came to the examination and signed digitally on the treatment cost statement. This is the first hospital in the country to deploy digital signatures of patients on the treatment cost statement.

Nguyen Van Nguyen (21 years old, Hanoi), who has hyperthyroidism and comes for a regular check-up, said: "After the examination, I was instructed on how to use VNeID to digitally sign the treatment cost statement. Previously, I had to sign on paper on the cost statement, now I only need to sign on the phone, the operation is very fast, convenient and has long-term value. I can sign digitally no matter where I sit, I don't need to sign at the clinic. This is very convenient, shortening the time for medical examination."

Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy Hang, Head of the Examination Department, Xanh Pon General Hospital, said that patients who have a digital signature after examination can go down to get medicine immediately, without having to return to the examination room. This avoids doctors from having too many patients, reduces administrative procedures, and shortens the time for patients to see a doctor, making it convenient to get a health insurance prescription. Patients now only need to bring a smartphone with a VNeID level 2 identification installed, without having to bring any documents.

According to Dr. Luong Duc Dung, Head of Planning and Synthesis Department, Xanh Pon General Hospital, implementing the official dispatch of the National Population Data Center on coordinating the pilot implementation of the solution "Centralized remote digital signature portal on the VNeID electronic identification and authentication platform", Xanh Pon General Hospital officially deployed patient digital signatures on the treatment cost statement from May 21.

The implementation of digital signatures is applied to 100% of inpatients and 3 outpatient clinics of the Examination Department, mainly clinics with many patients with chronic diseases.

"Implementing digital signatures for patients brings many practical benefits. Patients' personal information is better secured, minimizing the risk of forgery or misuse," Dr. Dung emphasized.

In addition, attaching a digital signature to the treatment cost statement facilitates patients in managing treatment information, especially in cases of periodic re-examination or cashless payment.

The application of digital signatures also contributes to transparency in medical examination and treatment costs, authenticating patients who actually use the service, thereby minimizing fraud, health insurance fraud and enhancing people's trust in the health system.

According to Dr. Hang, on average, Xanh Pon General Hospital receives about 3,000 to 3,300 patients per day, with 54 examination tables. For now, the hospital will perform digital signatures directly on the phone for young patients. As for the elderly, if they use a smartphone, there will be staff to guide them through the digital signature operations on VNeID; in case they do not use a phone, they will still sign by hand.

Sharing more about this issue, Dr. Dung said that in the coming time, the Hospital will continue to expand the implementation of digital signatures for other types of documents in the outpatient examination and treatment process, in order to promote digital transformation, reduce administrative procedures and improve the patient experience such as surgical commitment papers, on-demand treatment, public medical examination and treatment boards and other medical documents with patient signatures.

To move towards a smart, paperless hospital, Xanh Pon General Hospital focuses on 6 strategic pillars such as: Completing electronic medical records and paperless processes; integrating VNeID digital identification and remote digital signature; deploying AI assistant system in medical examination and treatment; building smart medical examination portal and Mobile App; connecting medical data and continuous care; ensuring stability - security - safety in digital transformation.
