Mr. Diep Bao Tuan, Director of the Oncology Hospital, said so at the Science and Technology conference on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Oncology Hospital's founding (May 15, 1985 - May 15, 2025), held in Ho Chi Minh City on May 16.
Looking back on the 40-year journey since the establishment of the Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Center, now the Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital, under the leadership of Professor Nguyen Chan Hung, then Dr. Le Hoang Minh, Dr. Pham Xuan Dung and now Dr. Diep Bao Tuan, Mr. Diep Bao Tuan commented: "The Oncology Hospital has continuously developed".
Every year, Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital receives more than 880,000 patients for medical examination, nearly 55,000 inpatient treatments, more than 375,000 outpatient treatments, nearly 39,000 surgeries, 180,000 radiotherapy treatments and 320,000 medical oncology treatments (chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy).
According to Mr. Tuan, the active activities of the Vietnam Cancer Association, the Ho Chi Minh City Medical Association, the Ho Chi Minh City Cancer Association in coordination with cancer associations in other provinces and cities and the support of all levels, sectors, media, etc. have made the network and cancer prevention programs develop strongly; continue to raise awareness of cancer for people, and update new treatment knowledge for doctors and cancer nurses nationwide, as well as in Ho Chi Minh City.
"Cancer has been and is a burden for families and society around the world as well as in Vietnam.
Cancer incidence and mortality continue to rise. According to Globocan 2022, there are an estimated 19.9 million new cases and 9.7 million deaths worldwide.
In Vietnam, there are about 180,400 new cases and more than 120,000 deaths from cancer," said Mr. Tuan.
