Can Tho Secretary and 3,000 people walk together for the poor

On December 1, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City coordinated with relevant units to organize the program "Walking for the poor" in response to the emulation movement "Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses" for the second time in 2024, attracting more than 3,000 participants.

The walking program started at 6:00 a.m. City leaders and residents walked 2.5 km from Luu Huu Phuoc Park to 30/4 Street (Ninh Kieu District), then continued walking to the headquarters of Can Tho City People's Committee, returning to the final destination at Luu Huu Phuoc Park.

Present early were Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu - Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee, Mr. Pham Van Hieu - Chairman of Can Tho City People's Council, Mr. Duong Tan Hien - Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee and leaders of departments, branches and sectors of the city.

The units participating in the program also include Can Tho Women's Union, Farmers' Association, Veterans' Association, students from Can Tho and Tay Do universities...

This event also joins the atmosphere of the Ho Chi Minh City and Mekong Delta Tourism and Trade Week taking place in Can Tho.

Mr. Nguyen Trung Nhan - Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City - said that Can Tho has had many policies and implemented well policies for people with revolutionary contributions, poor and near-poor households and households in especially difficult circumstances.

In the past 5 years (2019-2024), the Fund for the Poor at all levels of the city has built, repaired and handed over 2,819 Great Solidarity houses to poor, near-poor and disadvantaged households with a budget of over 140 billion VND.

In 2024 alone, the mobilized fund reached 26 billion VND, allocated to build and repair over 515 Great Solidarity houses. In particular, poor Khmer households were given priority, contributing significantly to the successful implementation of the movement "The whole country joins hands for the poor - leaving no one behind" launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.

Special thanks to the press and media agencies that have accompanied, supported, promoted, mobilized and organized charitable and social activities that have brought practical results such as the program For Tomorrow's Development of Tuoi Tre Newspaper, Trade Union Shelter of Lao Dong Newspaper, Sympathy and Sharing of Can Tho City Radio and Television Station", Mr. Nhan expressed.

On this occasion, the program awarded 10 Great Solidarity houses to poor households, near-poor households and households with housing difficulties in Can Tho, each house worth 50 million VND from the city's Fund for the Poor.
