According to Nikkei newspaper, the fruity and spicy taste of Vietnamese craft beer is very popular with consumers in Japan as well as many other countries.

Tasting Bar Shibataya in Tokyo, Japan serves a variety of customers' needs, including colorful beer cans from Pasteur Street Brewing - a craft beer producer from Vietnam.

“This beer tastes perfect for Japan's hot and humid weather right now,” a manager from the Tasting Bar Shibataya operator was quoted as saying by the Nikkei newspaper.

Founded in Ho Chi Minh City in 2014 by a group of American brewers, Pasteur Street Brewing has sparked the craft beer boom in Vietnam. Pasteur Street Brewing’s beers feature a wide range of flavors, including local fruits, spices, and coffee beans .

On a busy day, Tasting Bar Shibataya sells more than 30 cans of beer from Pasteur Street Brewing, mostly to customers who love craft beer, and to those who have tried it when visiting Vietnam - Honbu added.

Shibata-ya Holdings - the company that owns the bar - has started importing beer from a Vietnamese brewer since May 2023, serving both retail and corporate customers.

Heart of Darkness Brewery is another craft beer producer with a production facility in the suburbs of Ho Chi Minh City, which has just opened its second branch in Singapore.

Heart of Darkness Brewery's beer offers a striking combination of chocolate and fruit flavors, exported to eight countries and regions, including Thailand, Malaysia and Finland.

Along with the dynamic growth of the economy , beer bars in many big cities have added fruit-flavored beer and many other flavors - Nikkei newspaper commented.

However, the market for this beverage in Vietnam is facing some "disadvantages".

In January 2020, the government introduced strict penalties for driving after consuming alcoholic beverages. In 2021, Japanese beer and beverage company Kirin reported a 5.5% drop in beer consumption in Vietnam.

As consumers become increasingly conscious of healthy drinks, breweries in Vietnam are moving towards producing low-alcohol and non-alcoholic beers.
