Binh Chanh is a district located at the western gateway of Ho Chi Minh City, covering an area of over 25,000 hectares and with a population of over 85,000 people. The district has 130 preschool and generaleducation facilities with 3,243 classes and 110,830 school-age students. Ms. Phan Thi Cam Nhung said that in the coming time, the district needs 427 more teachers and 63 staff to meet the demand for teachers in the area.
At the seminar, many schools complained that it was "difficult" even though they had tried very hard to improve the quality of teaching for all subjects, especially three subjects: Math, Literature, and Foreign Language.
Mr. Phan Van Chuong, Principal of Vinh Loc B Secondary School, said that the school has 41 rooms with 81 classes. If a teacher is absent for a day, he or she has to make up for it on Sunday, leading to no time left to make up lessons and practice skills for students.
Many opinions at the seminar said that there should be a suitable mechanism for recruiting teachers and investing more in facilities and teaching equipment.
With 10 English teachers, each teacher must teach 8 classes and with additional work, about 27 periods/week; especially, teaching to increase enrollment in grade 10, each teacher must teach from 40 to more than 50 periods/week.
"There should be more mechanisms to increase review time, guide students to improve quality and build more schools because if there is no time to make up for lessons and a lack of classrooms, it will be very difficult for us to improve quality," Mr. Chuong suggested.
Some education managers also said that it is necessary to invest more in convenient facilities and modern equipment to attract parents to send their children to school, along with a mechanism to recruit separate teachers due to the remote location.
Mr. Tran Van Nam, Secretary of Binh Chanh District Party Committee, requested to study solutions to improve the quality of education.
Mr. Tran Van Nam, Secretary of the Binh Chanh District Party Committee, suggested that education managers and teachers boldly innovate teaching methods in a modern direction, overcoming the situation of one-way, mechanical learning. "Don't worry about quantity and forget about quality. We must ensure schools and classes, but the goal is to improve the quality of teaching and learning," said Mr. Nam.
In September 2023, Binh Chanh District put into use 1 school in Hung Long Commune and 2 schools in Binh Hung Commune. In the period of 2021 - 2025, Binh Chanh District has a need to invest in 36 educational projects, of which 2 communes Vinh Loc A and Vinh Loc B account for 15 projects. Currently, 30 small repair projects in preparation for the 2023 - 2024 school year are expected to be handed over to the schools by the end of August 2023.
In June 2023, Binh Chanh District organized a conference to call for investment in schools on 84 plots of land with a total area of 100 hectares, including 8 high schools, 15 middle schools, 23 primary schools and 38 kindergartens.
