The Ministry of Industry and Trade has just announced that the ministerial-level negotiation session within the framework of the bilateral agreement on reciprocal trade between Vietnam and the United States took place on June 4 in Paris, France, between Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, Head of the Government's negotiation delegation and Mr. Jamieson Greer, Chief US Trade Representative, Head of the negotiation delegation.
The two ministers assessed the results of the implementation of the contents agreed upon by the two sides after the second round of technical negotiations and discussed the direction for the next round of negotiations.
On the Vietnamese side, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien stated the main points in Vietnam's response documents to the issues raised by the United States, and affirmed Vietnam's determination and goodwill in the process of finding a common voice and action with the United States.
On that basis, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien asked US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer to express his views on issues of concern to Vietnam.
Mr. Jamieson Greer appreciated Vietnam's goodwill, approach and handling of the problem in response to the proposals made by the United States.
He also acknowledged the efforts and constructive spirit of the Vietnamese negotiating delegation. He said that, as comprehensive strategic partners, reaching an agreement on reciprocal tax policies at this time is of great significance to both countries.
He responded quite positively to issues that Vietnam was concerned about, and at the same time proposed a number of solutions to handle complicated issues during the negotiation process.
The two ministers agreed to speed up the negotiation process, especially focusing maximum efforts to achieve the best results in the third round of technical negotiations.
The two ministers also agreed to assign technical levels to increase exchanges through online working sessions in content groups to maximally resolve remaining technical issues, creating the best momentum for the 3rd Round of Technical Negotiations scheduled to be held in the first half of June.
Along with that, the two ministers pledged to continue close coordination and are ready to conduct many ministerial-level exchanges to promote the negotiation process towards appropriate results for both sides.
