Navy: Increase forces and means to help people respond to and overcome flood consequences

Prolonged heavy rains caused floods in Da Nang and Hue cities. With proactive response, officers and soldiers of Naval Region 3 Command worked closely with localities and organizations to effectively help people, contributing to minimizing damage caused by natural disasters.

Timely support for people

Faced with the situation of prolonged rain and floods causing widespread inundation and many complicated developments, officers and soldiers of Brigade 680 (Navy Region 3) quickly arrived to support people, especially people and property in deeply flooded areas, to move to safe areas, minimizing damage caused by rain and floods.

In Ha Nha commune, Da Nang city, many places had water levels of more than 3 meters deep; hundreds of households suffered heavy property damage. With the motto of "4 on-site", Brigade 680 mobilized specialized rescue boats, special vehicles and many cars of all kinds. Regardless of the danger, overcoming the rain and floods, the unit's working groups coordinated with local authorities to move dozens of households to safety, especially giving priority to the elderly, women and children.

Directly present to command the troops carrying out rescue work at the scene, Colonel Pham Van Toan, Brigade Commander of Brigade 680, said: Ha Nha commune is a sister unit of Brigade 680 and is also one of the most heavily flooded areas in this historic flood. Upon receiving instructions from superiors, the Brigade immediately mobilized forces and vehicles to help the people. This practical support is the responsibility and also the sentiment of the Navy soldiers towards the people in the sister unit.

Rescue vehicles of Brigade 680 continuously moved in the isolated area due to flood water to transport people, goods, supply food, drinking water and support medical care for people. At the same time, officers and soldiers also actively helped people move their properties, clean up their houses, contributing to stabilizing the situation after the flood.

It is known that up to now, units under the Naval Region 3 Command have mobilized over 200 officers and soldiers along with 7 rescue boats and 12 cars of various types to support people in flooded areas in Da Nang city and Hue city.

Ms. Tran Thu Huong in Thanh Nam residential group, Hoi An ward, Da Nang city shared: We were completely passive because the flood water rose very quickly. I was very worried because my family had both elderly people and children. Fortunately, thanks to the help of the Navy, my family was supported with necessities and taken to a safe location.

Pioneers in disaster prevention and control

As floods in the Central provinces continue to have many complicated developments, especially the flood water in Da Nang city has exceeded the historical mark of 1964, the forces of the Naval Region 3 Command are persistently staying at their posts to support local people in coping with the floods.

The soldiers of Naval Region 3 have been regularly present at heavily flooded areas including Phong Dien ward (Hue city); Ha Nha, Hoa Tien, Hoi An, Dien Ban communes (Da Nang city). With specialized motorboats, they have approached and organized the evacuation of people from dangerous areas and transported food, drinking water and necessities to isolated areas to support people.

To date, officers and soldiers of Naval Region 3 have supported flood victims with 1,030 kg of dry food; 150 boxes of instant noodles; 80 kg of meat and canned meat; 100 kg of rice; 80 kg of vegetables; 150 life jackets; 20 sets of underwear; 20 sets of long clothes; 20 towels and over 32 million VND in cash.

The images of hundreds of officers and soldiers of Naval Region 3 wading through the floodwaters overnight, helping to evacuate people to safety, providing local people with food, and helping to rebuild houses... have left many good impressions on people in the flooded areas.

Information from the Naval Region 3 Command said that in the coming days, units will continue to increase forces and means to help people respond to and overcome the consequences of floods. In particular, focusing on supporting and providing necessities, food, medicine to people in flooded areas; transporting people and property to safe places and preparing means and materials to support people in cleaning, disinfecting, and improving the landscape after the water recedes.

Upholding the spirit of "helping people like helping their own relatives", officers and soldiers of the Naval Region 3 Command proactively and enthusiastically helped people respond to the historic flood, thereby clearly affirming their pioneering role in natural disaster prevention and control, search and rescue; and spreading the noble qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers - Vietnam People's Navy soldiers", contributing to strengthening the solidarity between the army and the people in the new period.
