Vietnamese blue berets bring Mid-Autumn Festival to children in Abyei

TPO – At the Highway base of the UNISFA Mission, the Vietnam Engineering Team No. 2 recently organized the program "Happy Mid-Autumn Festival 2024" for children at the church in the Abyei area, aiming to spread the beauty of national culture and share love with the local community.

According to the Vietnam Engineering Team No. 2 (DCB No. 2), the school in the Abyei church area is a place to care for and teach nearly 250 orphaned children of preschool age living in this area.

During the 2022-2024 period, the Vietnamese Blue Beret Engineer Force built and donated 3 classrooms; organized clean water supply, monthly cartoon screenings, and donated many gifts including teaching facilities, books, pens, and food to support the school.

Officers and staff of the 2nd Engineering Team welcomed children from the Abyei area to Highway base to participate in the "Happy Mid-Autumn Festival 2024" program.

This year’s “Happy Mid-Autumn Festival” program was organized by the 2nd Party Committee at Highway Base with hundreds of children participating, contributing to strengthening the solidarity and close relationship between the Vietnamese peacekeeping force at the UNISFA Mission and the local community and government. At the same time, it supported and contributed to bringing a joyful atmosphere to children in the Abyei area.

The program has many special contents, such as: Performing arts, group dancing, playing folk games; introducing the Mid-Autumn Festival in Eastern culture in general and Vietnam in particular; introducing the legend of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the banyan tree, and Uncle Cuoi through an English animated video clip; giving gifts to 10 outstanding students who passed the university entrance exam last year in Abyei; giving gifts to 5 classes at Abyei church (5 bookshelves, toys, books).

In addition, DCB No. 2 also gave more than 200 toys to children (made by the Youth Union and Women's Union of DCB No. 2 from plastic bottles and recycled scrap paper during holidays and breaks) and organized a Mid-Autumn Festival.

Abyei children enjoy the Mid-Autumn Festival in the joy of childhood.

Sharing at the program, Major Nguyen Mau Vu - Political Commissar of the 2nd Party Committee, affirmed: "We - the Vietnamese blue beret soldiers, have long been a part of the Abyei community and always want to help this land with all our might. The Mid-Autumn Festival is not only a traditional holiday but also a meaningful moment in Vietnamese culture. We hope that this is an opportunity for children to feel the care, affection and attachment of the community around them."

Teacher Catherine - Principal of Abyei Church School emotionally said at the program: "The children were very happy and joyful to attend the program today. Even though you came from a foreign country, with a different culture, you made the children feel the love without distance. Thank you, Engineer Team! Thank you, Vietnam!"
