According to the plan of the Ministry of Education and Training, the national high school student selection exam in 2025 will take place in 2 days, December 25-26, in 34 provinces and centrally-run cities.

Specifically, December 25: Written exams in Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Literature, History, Geography, English, Russian, French, Chinese, Japanese and computer programming exam for Information Technology.

December 26: Written exams in Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology; Speaking exams in English, Russian, French, Chinese, Japanese and computer programming exam in Information Technology.

Exam paper cutting time in the exam room is 7:50. Exam time for each session is 8:00.

The Ministry of Education and Training said that the exam content will follow the General Education Program issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, amended and supplemented by Circular 13/2022/TT-BGDDT and Circular 17/2025/TT-BGDDT. For foreign language exams: Russian, French, Chinese, Japanese will follow the current General Education Program and Official Dispatch 4171/BGDDT-GDTrH of the Ministry of Education and Training guiding the implementation of the specialized program for specialized subjects at high school level.

The national high school excellent student selection exam for the 2025-2026 school year will take place over two days, December 25-26.

Before November 25, the Examination Councils need to send the registration of the number of candidates to the Ministry of Education and Training.

Before December 5, the Examination Councils will send the list of candidates registered for the exam to the Ministry of Education and Training.

The Examination Councils will open on December 24 and will organize mock speaking tests for candidates in Foreign Language subjects, which will be completed before 4:00 p.m. Units will prepare their own speaking tests for candidates to take mock tests or for candidates to introduce themselves.

In the speaking test of foreign languages, when the system starts recording, candidates must read the test code and the content of the test question before starting to answer in the test language. Candidates are not allowed to read their full name, registration number, mention personal information in the answer, or make noises to mark their test (if they violate this regulation, their speaking test will be considered a violation of the regulations). When recording the test, candidates must speak loudly and clearly.

Exam results are expected to be announced on January 21, 2026.

The 2026 International Olympic Team Selection Exam will be held on March 24, 25 and 26, 2026 in Hanoi . The list of students selected for the 2026 regional and international Olympic teams will be announced on April 3, 2026.

The national high school excellent student selection exam is held annually to encourage teachers and students to develop their creativity, teach well, and study well. The exam contributes to promoting the improvement and enhancement of the quality of teaching and learning, the quality of management and direction of educational management at all levels. Through the exam, students with aptitude in subjects are also discovered to nurture, create resources, and achieve the goal of training talents for the country.

In the previous school year, according to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, 3,803 candidates won prizes out of a total of 6,482 candidates taking the exam, accounting for 58.68%.
