This is the first year the exam is held in a new context, when there is no longer an exam at the district level. The exam is expected to be held on January 10, 2026 with the participation of communes, wards and schools under the Department.
The exam is organized with 7 subjects including: Literature, Mathematics, Information Technology, Civic Education , Foreign Languages (including English, French, Japanese), History and Geography (including 2 sub-subjects: History and Geography), Natural Sciences (including 3 content streams: Energy and transformation; Matter and change of matter; Living things).
Regarding the exam format, the subjects of Literature, Mathematics, and Civic Education are tested in the form of essays; the subjects of Natural Sciences , History and Geography, and Foreign Languages are tested in the form of essays combined with objective tests (the Foreign Language subject has an additional listening section); and the subject of Information Technology is tested in the form of computer programming.
After the administrative reorganization, Hanoi has 126 communes and wards (51 wards and 75 communes). The maximum number of students in each commune and ward team is calculated based on the number and size of secondary schools in the commune and ward. If the commune or ward has more than 61 grade 9 classes, 7 students are allowed to be sent to each team.
In case there is a high-quality secondary school in the area, the unit is allowed to send a maximum of 7 students for each team. In case the subject has a student winning first prize in the 9th grade excellent student selection exam for secondary school in the 2024-2025 school year, the unit is allowed to send an additional number of students participating equal to the number of students winning first prize in that subject in addition to the prescribed quota.
For Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted: each team has a maximum of 7 students. In case the subject has a First Prize in the 9th grade excellent student selection exam for the 2024 - 2025 school year, the assigned unit will increase the number of participating students equal to the number of students who won the First Prize.
For Nguyen Dinh Chieu Secondary School, Xa Dan Secondary School, Khuong Ha Primary, Secondary and High School: each team has a maximum of 2 students. In case the subject has a First Prize in the 9th Grade Excellent Student Selection Competition for Secondary School in the 2024 - 2025 school year, the assigned unit will increase the number of participating students equal to the number of students who won the First Prize.
Students participating in the exam must have good academic results and training results at the end of the previous school year or at the end of the first semester of the current school year, in which the academic results of the exam subject must be 8.0 or higher. Each student can only register for 1 subject or sub-subject or content line.
The exam content follows the 2018 General Education Program (all levels, except grade 9 up to the end of semester I). Exam time for all subjects is 150 minutes.
