Hanoi Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, formerly Ha Tay Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, was established in 1994. Initially, the school was called Ba Vi District Boarding Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities.

After more than 30 years of construction and development, the school now has a spacious and impressive facility with a total area of 4.2 hectares, 13 construction items including the head office, classrooms, dormitory, kitchen, auditorium, physical education building, stadium, playground, practice ground, and other auxiliary works.

The school has 840 students studying at two levels. The school's campus is spacious, green - clean - beautiful, safe, meeting the requirements of teaching, learning and nurturing ethnic minority students in the mountainous communes of Hanoi city.

At the Hanoi Ethnic Boarding School, students receive a monthly allowance of 1,872,000 VND. In addition, they are provided with textbooks, stationery, school supplies, school bags and other daily necessities as required.

Over the years, the city has promptly directed and supplemented a sufficient number of administrators, teachers and staff for the school, especially teachers with good professional qualifications and passion for national education. Teachers are responsible for their profession and devoted to their beloved students.

The school has effectively organized and implemented the campaigns "Each teacher is a role model of morality, self-study and creativity" and the emulation movement "Building a friendly school, active students" in many forms and contents suitable for a school with 2 levels of education.

To effectively care for and manage boarding students, the school has a management board on duty 24/7, builds a reasonable and scientific schedule of activities, organizes guidance for students to self-study, educates and takes good care of students' health, and organizes cooking for students 3 meals/day to ensure adequate quantity and quality.

The school takes good care of the spiritual life of boarding students, such as providing televisions, organizing cultural, artistic and sports activities, and coordinating with the Ba Vi District Cultural House to organize big screen movie screenings 2 nights/month for boarding students to watch.

Mr. Bui Duc Thanh - Vice Principal of Hanoi Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities said: As a specialized school of the city, the school's students are ethnic minorities from 13 mountainous communes of Hanoi city.

The students are mainly Muong and Dao ethnic groups. Compared to the general level of Hanoi city, the students of the school may have lower awareness. However, the students have the strength of being very obedient and hard-working.

With the attention of the Party and the State, the living and studying conditions of the students are now very good. The school creates the best conditions for studying time, from formal study time to self-study time. The school organizes 2nd session teaching, paying attention to weak students in addition to investing in review for good students.

Recently, the Hanoi People's Committee issued Decision No. 4958/QD-UBND approving rice support for students of Ethnic Minority Boarding Schools in the second semester of the 2024-2025 school year and the first semester of the 2025-2026 school year according to the provisions of Decree No. 66/2025/ND-CP dated March 12, 2025 of the Government.

Accordingly, in the second semester of the 2024-2025 school year (5 months), 837 students will receive rice support, with each student receiving 15 kg of rice per month. The total amount of rice supported is 62,775 kg.

In the first semester of the 2025-2026 school year (4 months), 875 students received rice support, with each student receiving 15 kg of rice per month. The total amount of rice supported is 52,500 kg. Thus, the total amount of rice supported for students in 9 months is nearly 115.3 tons.

The implementation of the rice support plan aims to ensure rights, improve lives, encourage ethnic minority students to study with peace of mind, and contribute to the effective implementation of social security policies in the city.

Mr. Tran The Cuong - Director of Hanoi Department of Education and Training praised the efforts of teachers and students over the past 30 years. The school has gradually overcome all difficulties, strived to excellently complete assigned tasks, and contributed to the successful implementation of the educational mission of Hanoi city.
