The People's Committee of Quang Tri province has just issued an urgent document assigning the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to receive 27,000 doses of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) vaccine type O and A, 3,500 liters of Benkocid chemicals from the national reserve, issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to Quang Tri province to prevent animal diseases.

Based on the number of vaccines and chemicals provided, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development urgently allocates and directs localities to deploy vaccination, disinfection, and environmental decontamination to prevent animal diseases, ensuring speed, timeliness, effectiveness and compliance with regulations.

Since the end of June 2024, the FMD epidemic in the province has been complicated and has a tendency to spread widely. In the whole province, 6 communes and towns of 2 districts of Huong Hoa (5 communes and towns) and Dakrong (1 commune) have had FMD, in which Huong Phung commune, Huong Hoa district has had the epidemic for 21 days.

Total number of sick buffaloes and cows is 274 (66 buffaloes, 208 cows); 9 died and were buried (2 buffaloes, 7 cows); 42 have recovered.

Due to the dangerous and rapidly spreading nature of the disease, and limited awareness of disease prevention among livestock farmers, the disease has not yet been controlled.

In the coming time, the risk of the number of infected cattle may continue to increase because the epidemic area is a mountainous district, people have the habit of grazing freely, making it difficult to isolate, care for, treat and disinfect; while the herd of buffalo and cows has expired its immunity but there is no vaccine yet.
