The project launched in Lam Dong province is Phan Thiet Airport, located in Mui Ne ward. This is a dual-use airport, meeting military standard level I and civilian standard level 4E (ICAO), belonging to group A. The project's investor is the Air Defense - Air Force Command, with a total investment of 7,925 billion VND.
Phan Thiet Airport is one of the domestic airports included in Vietnam's airport system plan until 2050. According to Decision No. 648/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister , in the period 2021–2030, the airport will have a scale of over 580 hectares, designed to accommodate 2 million passengers per year. By 2050, the project is planned to expand to over 835 hectares, reaching a capacity of 3 million passengers per year.
Phan Thiet Airport was first approved in 2014, with a total investment of nearly 1,700 billion VND, meeting 4C standards and implemented under the BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) model. In 2018, the project's planning was adjusted, upgrading it to a 4E-class domestic airport – operating for both military and civilian purposes. In August 2025, the airport was included in the list of dual-use defense facilities.
However, after many years, the project has still not been able to commence construction, remaining at the land clearance stage. The adjustment of the scale from level 4C to 4E also renders the project inconsistent with the initial investment plan. In August 2028, the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee submitted a report requesting approval to terminate the BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) model for the project.
