On May 11, the Department of Food Safety ( Ministry of Health ) said that it had received an initial report from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety about a suspected food poisoning incident at Vo Thi Sau Primary School (District 7, Ho Chi Minh City). Specifically, after eating lunch on April 9, 29 students showed symptoms of stomachache, vomiting, fever, and diarrhea.
In response to the above incident, the Food Safety Department has issued an official dispatch requesting the Ho Chi Minh City Food Safety Department to urgently organize an investigation and trace the origin of food to clearly identify the source of raw materials and food for the processing facility suspected of causing poisoning; take food samples and specimens for testing to find the cause.
The Food Safety Department requires the temporary suspension of operations of meal processing facilities suspected of causing food poisoning if it detects a risk of further food poisoning; strictly handle violations of food safety regulations (if any) and publicize the results to promptly warn the community.
In addition, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety needs to strengthen management measures, especially in collective kitchens and catering establishments to limit the risk of food poisoning. Strengthen propaganda and guidance for collective kitchens and catering establishments to strictly control the origin and source of food ingredients, ensure hygiene throughout the process of food preparation, processing, transportation, food safety conditions, three-step inspection, and food sample storage.
Earlier on the evening of April 9, many parents whose children study at Vo Thi Sau Primary School (District 7, Ho Chi Minh City) reported that in the afternoon of the same day, after returning home from school, their children vomited a lot, could not eat, had stomachaches and fever. By the morning of April 10, this condition had not improved, so the family took them to the hospital for examination.
Also on the morning of April 10, the school's medical department counted and heard reports from homeroom teachers. There were 21 students absent from school due to stomachaches, vomiting, and some had diarrhea since the night of April 9. By noon on April 10, the students' condition had stabilized. Families and the school are actively monitoring the students' condition.
In addition, class 3/6 also recently recorded another student with similar symptoms, who was hospitalized this morning for health monitoring.
It is known that Vo Thi Sau Primary School is currently using industrial meals for boarding students. The school's boarding meal on April 9 includes the following dishes: Fried chicken wings with fish sauce, stir-fried chayote with carrots, sour cabbage soup and Dutch Lady strawberry sterilized fresh milk. The menu also states that Vo Thi Sau Primary School's boarding meals are provided by Xich Long Food Company Limited.
Immediately after the incident, the school sealed and kept food samples from April 9 to serve the inspection and traceability work.
