Patient burned by pressure cooker explosion receives emergency treatment at Hospital 108
AN NGOC
The cause of the burn was a pressure cooker explosion while the patient was using it to cook at home.
At Hospital 108, the patient underwent emergency surgery to debride the wound, fix the left tibia, suture the wound, and care for the burned skin and mucous membranes. After 1 week of intensive treatment, the patient was discharged from the hospital, currently in stable health condition.
According to Dr. Le Khanh Ninh (Emergency Department), burns can be caused by many different reasons, are common accidents in life and at work, can be life-threatening, and leave many sequelae.
In particular, thermal burns caused by boiler explosions can cause extensive burns, deep burns, accompanied by damage to organs due to the explosion: broken limbs, chest injuries... People need to be equipped with basic first aid knowledge when burned. When burned, first isolate the patient away from the cause of the burn, lightly bandage or cover the wound with gauze, clean cloth, then quickly take them to the emergency room, do not self-treat at home.
Notes on first aid for burns
According to Hospital 108, when you are unfortunately burned, do not use ice cold water to cool the burn because it will make the burn more serious. This is a common mistake that everyone should pay attention to avoid making.
Do not treat burns based on "word of mouth" experience such as applying fish sauce, banana roots... because it will make the burn more serious.
Applying toothpaste to burns is a misconception. Toothpaste contains a small amount of base, which when applied to burns will only make the patient more painful.
Do not break blisters to avoid infection.
