Brighton earn £271m from Chelsea

With the agreement to sign striker Joao Pedro, Chelsea will reach the milestone of 271 million pounds (300 million euros) in buying Brighton & Hove Albion players in just 3 years.

The Joao Pedro deal takes Chelsea's total spending on Brighton to £271m in just three years.

According to Sky Sports and The Athletic , Chelsea have agreed to pay Brighton £55m plus £5m in add-ons to sign Joao Pedro. The player is currently on his way from Brazil to the US to undergo a medical and complete the formalities before joining Enzo Maresca's squad for the FIFA Club World Cup.

With FIFA allowing clubs to register new players until 3 July, Pedro could even feature for Chelsea in the quarter-final against Palmeiras. The Joao Pedro deal would take Chelsea's total spending on Brighton stars to more than £271m in just three years.

These deals include: manager Graham Potter and his assistants with compensation fees up to £21m in 2022, defender Marc Cucurella (£60m in 2022), goalkeeper Robert Sanchez (£25m, 2023), midfielder Moises Caicedo (£115m in 2023) and most recently striker Joao Pedro (£50m, 2025).

The Guardian called this figure “crazy”, as Chelsea spent a huge amount of money to bring in a total of 14 players and staff from Brighton since 2022. Even PSG or Bayern Munich have never spent such a large amount of money on a domestic club.

Brighton, with their strategy of buying low and selling high, continue to make huge profits from these deals. The fees paid by Chelsea not only bring financial benefits but also help Brighton invest in other young talents who are expected to shine in the future.
