Recently, many residents and parents were outraged when they discovered that a series of stone benches placed in the public area in front of Ngo Gia Tu High School were spray-painted with advertisements for a betting website. This situation has been happening openly for many months but has not been thoroughly handled, raising questions about the responsibility of authorities in managing public spaces.
According to the reporter's records, along the campus in front of the school gate, many stone benches were spray-painted with the domain name of a betting website, using a prominent white color with the phrase "entertainment place just for you". These lines of text were printed in bold, taking up the entire backrest or seat of the chair, causing an unsightly appearance and causing discomfort to passersby. Besides, sometimes it also creates excitement and curiosity for young people or passersby.
In particular, when reporters accessed the advertised websites, a series of real money betting games such as card games, poker, and online casinos appeared densely, continuously offering invitations to participate in many attractive and accessible forms.
According to local residents, this situation has been going on for months. A resident living near the area said: “These chairs have been graffitied for a long time, for months, but no one has taken care of it. People around would not have thought this was a betting site if they had not been reminded.”
These chairs were originally placed for students and residents to rest or wait for their children after school. However, they have now become places to promote online betting, a social evil that is increasingly creeping into social life.
Many parents expressed concern about the above situation. Ms. Nguyen Minh Ngoc (Lap Thach) said: “Children are at an age of curiosity, very easily drawn in. When they see the lines of betting website advertisements right in front of their eyes, it is possible that they will be curious and then search and access them at home. Schools cannot control all of students' behavior outside of school hours, so I really hope the government will soon intervene to prevent this harmful form of advertising.”
When the whole country is trying to build a safe school environment, saying no to school violence, social evils and harmful factors, allowing betting advertisements to openly exist right in front of hundreds of students every day is an unacceptable paradox. This not only shows the recklessness and disregard for the law of the subjects distributing the advertisements, but also shows loopholes in the management of public spaces, especially areas neareducational institutions.
The fact that advertising lines for betting websites exist from month to month without being removed and without specific action taken shows laxity in the supervision and management of public spaces.
Faced with the above situation, local residents and parents of students requested that local authorities take action soon. The first thing to do is to remove all illegal advertising content, and at the same time, check and review public areas near schools to promptly detect and prevent similar acts. In addition, it is necessary to verify and strictly handle subjects who spray paint advertising illegal betting websites.
This is not just a story about a few lines of words painted on a stone bench, but behind it is the responsibility of the government in protecting students and people from social evils that are becoming more and more varied, sophisticated and daring.
