Huong Khe District, Ha Tinh Province is considered the largest “capital” of growing Phuc Trach grapefruit in the Central region. The entire district currently has about 2,768 hectares of Phuc Trach grapefruit, of which the area for products is more than 1,900 hectares, grown in many communes: Phuc Trach, Huong Trach, Huong Do, Loc Yen, Gia Pho, Huong Thuy, Huong Giang... According to estimates, this year the total fruit output will reach nearly 23,000 tons, earning about 600 billion VND.

This year, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Doan's family (residing in Tan Phuc village, Huong Trach commune, Huong Khe district) has 500 Phuc Trach grapefruit trees, expected to yield more than 11,000 fruits, earning 300 million VND.

“Thanks to being cared for according to the correct process, the grapefruits produce good quality, with even weight (from 1.1 to 1.3 kg/fruit), light yellow skin, and sweet flesh. Overall, this year's grapefruits are of better quality than previous years, and are purchased by traders at a high price of 30,000 to 35,000 VND/fruit,” said Nguyen Xuan Doan, a resident of Huong Khe.

Phuc Trach grapefruit is a typical and characteristic agricultural product, a key crop in the economic development of people in Huong Khe district. The Phuc Trach grapefruit brand has been granted a Certificate of registration of geographical indication "Phuc Trach" for the product "Grapefruit" by the Department of Intellectual Property (Ministry of Science and Technology) and is one of 39 geographical indications of Vietnam that have been committed to protection by the EU since August 1, 2020.
Phuc Trach grapefruit production process complies with VietGAP, GlobalGap, organic standards and is certified to ensure food safety.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Ho (residing in Ngoc Boi village, Huong Trach commune), said: "On average, my family harvests 5,000 grapefruits each year, selling for 30,000 - 35,000 VND/fruit, earning more than 100 million VND/year after deducting expenses.
Phuc Trach grapefruit is considered a key crop for local economic development. Most communes in the district grow grapefruit. Not only does it help alleviate poverty, Phuc Trach grapefruit also helps us get rich.

Huong Khe district is also implementing a plan to promote the grapefruit specialty bearing the geographical indication “Phuc Trach”, agreeing to use only one type of Phuc Trach grapefruit stamp. At the same time, coordinating with media agencies, newspapers and organizations and individuals to diversify propaganda channels; building reports, news, articles… to be broadcast on the mass media system.

The Farmers Support Center (Ha Tinh Farmers' Association) has coordinated with the Huong Khe District Farmers' Association to develop plans and solutions to support people in consuming Phuc Trach grapefruit, avoiding the situation of traders forcing down prices, contributing to creating trust and motivation for producers to feel secure every time the grapefruit harvest season comes.

Talking to Dan Viet reporter, Mr. Nguyen Tri Dong - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Huong Khe district (Ha Tinh province) said: "These days, people in the area have begun to harvest Phuc Trach grapefruit. This year, thanks to proper care and technical processes, Phuc Trach grapefruit has developed well, with sweet quality, and the fruit is more even and beautiful than last year."
