The competition is not only a place for dedicated farmers to compete, but also opens a promising door for high-quality Vietnamese coffee beans, especially the opportunity to access the demanding but potential Japanese market.
• SEARCH FOR HIGH QUALITY SPECIALTY COFFEE
The final round of the competition took place on April 24 at Dalat University, attracting the participation of hundreds of farmers from coffee growing regions of Lam Dong such as Dalat, Lac Duong and Lam Ha.
Co-organized by UCC Vietnam Company, La Viet Coffee Company Limited and the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry of Dalat University, this is the 11th time the Competition is held with the desire to carry out the noble mission: Improving the quality of Vietnamese Arabica coffee beans, supporting farmers to develop coffee growing sustainably and creating products that are competitive enough in the global market.
Important criteria such as aroma, complexity, aftertaste, acidity, body, balance and overall flavor were carefully considered by experts. |
To reach the final round, the coffee samples underwent a rigorous inspection process from harvesting, processing to meticulous tasting. The jury, including prestigious domestic and international experts, evaluated the quality of each sample based on SCA ( Specialty Coffee Association) standards.
Important criteria such as aroma, complex flavor, aftertaste, acidity, thickness, balance and overall flavor were carefully considered by the Jury members to select the best quality coffee beans, meeting the strict requirements of the international market.
And once again, coffee from Cau Dat (Tram Hanh commune, Da Lat city) has won the highest prize in this competition. This is the second consecutive time that Cau Dat coffee has affirmed its superior quality, proving the persistent efforts of farmers in the method of cultivating and processing coffee in this locality.
• BRINGING COFFEE TO THE WORLD MARKET
Not only receiving commemorative medals and certificates, the winning farmers were also awarded valuable cash prizes, with the first prize being 20 million VND. More special and valuable, the winning coffee samples in this Competition will be put into production and distribution by UCC Group in the Japanese market. The proud thing is that on each product packaging, the Vietnamese national flag will be solemnly printed along with detailed information about the farmer who created the high-quality coffee beans.
This is a valuable opportunity for Vietnamese coffee to be widely introduced at specialty coffee shops in Japan, opening up a potential export channel and enhancing the value of Vietnamese coffee brands on the world coffee map.
Farmers witness and wait for the results of the Final Round. |
In addition to the honors and awards, and the commitment to purchase coffee, the Competition also organizes a coffee seminar for farmers, producers and experts in the coffee industry to have the opportunity to meet, exchange experiences and update advanced production methods.
This seminar was held openly for farmers, producers and experts to discuss the agricultural potential of Da Lat, the process of connecting raw material areas with production and consumption of agricultural products.
The seminar took place enthusiastically, providing useful knowledge, helping farmers access and apply scientific and technical advances in their daily work.
Sharing about the competition, many farmers said that this is not only a playground to show off their talents but also a bridge to exchange and learn from experts and access new trends in the world coffee industry, thereby improving knowledge and improving the quality of Vietnamese coffee.
Representative of La Viet Company awarded Second Prize to farmer Huynh Thi Thanh Huyen (Tram Hanh commune, Da Lat) |
It can be seen that, for farmers, participating in the Competition is not only an opportunity to demonstrate the quality of their products, but also an opportunity to share and receive objective assessments from international experts, thereby improving production skills and improving economic efficiency.
Promoting and exporting products to a demanding market like Japan not only increases the value of coffee beans but also creates sustainable job opportunities for the coffee growing community.
