Singer Phung Khanh Linh shares about changes after 2 years

(Dan Tri) - After nearly 2 years of absence, Phung Khanh Linh surprised everyone when she returned with a unique image and musical style, completely different from her previous image of a sweet girl singing city pop music.

Singer and songwriter Phung Khanh Linh has just released a new song called Crying Block . This is the third song from her upcoming studio album called Among Ten Thousand People.

The song has an alternative rock and pop-punk sound, marking a bold change in direction for Phung Khanh Linh. She shared: "This is a risky move, but the reception from the audience in the past few days has given me more inspiration to continue creating."

The song was composed by Phung Khanh Linh herself, inspired by the pop rock wave of the late 1990s and early 2000s (the intersection of alternative rock, grunge and post-punk), combining edgy guitars, lively drums and layers of indie pop sounds.

On her personal page, Phung Khanh Linh wrote: "The song was written by Linh in November 2023, during the chaotic days of her inner life, when all words were exhausted, all expectations were broken. There was nothing left to say, nothing left to explain, just need to be listened to and understood. Sometimes, anger does not stem from hatred, but from a love that was once very sincere, that was everything."

The singer believes that acknowledging anger is a step toward listening to yourself and navigating healthy emotions. "All this anger used to be love. There are emotions that cannot be gentle, they come like a wave, fierce and loud, but more real than all the times we choose to be silent," she said.

The song depicts a girl hiding behind a veil, symbolizing the repression and being trapped in a storm of emotions. She lurks halfway between the desire to be seen and the fear of being seen, giving off a feeling of fragility, conflict, but also full of charm.

Since becoming known with the hit song "Today I'm Sad" , Phung Khanh Linh has constantly innovated through musical projects with strong personal imprints such as her debut album Yesteryear , city pop album CITOPIA . This upcoming album is an emotional journey from sadness, pain, to anger and liberation.
