Hospitals strengthen heat protection measures for patients

On June 3, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management ( Ministry of Health ) sent an official dispatch to the directors of hospitals under the Ministry; the Department of Health of provinces and centrally-run cities; and the health departments of ministries and branches requesting health care for patients and medical staff at medical examination and treatment facilities during hot weather.

The above request was made when recently, the weather in many regions across the country has been hot and sunny, affecting people's lives and working environment.

Relevant units need to prepare medicines, equipment, and emergency vehicles at hospitals and outpatient clinics; train and instruct on first aid skills for people with heatstroke, heat shock, and especially stroke; be ready to provide timely emergency care to patients; Coordinate with media units and preventive medical facilities in the area to propagate and mobilize people to proactively prevent heatstroke and sudden changes in environmental temperature.

Units also need to review the implementation of relevant criteria in the Hospital Quality Criteria Set 2.0: Increase ventilation in areas with a large number of patients such as waiting rooms, corridors, install additional canopies on walkways between buildings and in outdoor areas with a large concentration of patients' relatives.

The document clearly states that treatment departments, patient rooms, administrative offices, etc. should add ceiling fans, wall fans, steam fans, and industrial fans in corridors where necessary. Proactively mobilize resources to install air conditioners within the hospital's capacity.

The Ministry of Health also requires units to arrange and provide free drinking water for patients and their relatives in clinical departments and waiting rooms; Add drinking water dispensers in locations where there is a shortage or when demand increases on hot days.../.
