Inspiring speakers at the 2023 Young Scientists Conference

Speakers from management agencies, universities, and businesses shared practical scientific issues that can be used to solve sustainable development problems at the conference organized by VnExpress.

The conference with the theme "Young Scientists and Sustainable Development Goals" was held on the morning of May 17 at the Ministry of Science and Technology (113 Tran Duy Hung, Hanoi). The event is part of a series of activities to celebrate Vietnam Science and Technology Day 2023.

As the first speaker of the conference, Dr. Luong Quang Huy, Head of the Department of Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction and Ozone Layer Protection, Department of Climate Change, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment will share about environmental issues and climate change in Vietnam.

Mr. Huy has many years of research in the field of environment and climate change with many works published internationally.

In his speech, Dr. Luong Quang Huy will point out the advantages, opportunities and challenges of businesses in the context of increasingly polluted environment and the problem that requires science and technology to join hands to solve.

Based on the research he has conducted on policies to serve the development and implementation of greenhouse gas emission reduction actions appropriate to national conditions as well as the development of a set of extreme climate indicators to serve the management and monitoring of climate change for Vietnam, the speaker's suggestions will be valuable information for businesses and scientists.

As a speaker from the university, Dr. Ngo Thi Thuy Huong - an expert in ecotoxicology and environmental health will talk about research in the field of environment and sustainable development.

She is currently a lecturer and head of the Environmental Chemistry and Ecotoxicology research group at Phenikaa University, having chaired many domestic and international projects on water environment, ecotoxicology, environmental management, natural resources, phytoremediation and microplastic pollution.

Dr. Huong is currently leading the development of the "Environmental Health and Sustainable Development" training program at Phenikaa University. Her recent research has expanded to the areas of metal speciation and bioavailability in aquatic environments, as well as microplastic pollution and its impact on ecosystems and human health.

As a speaker from a business, Mr. Vu Chi Cong, Director, Head of ESG Department of VinaCapital shared about the issues of finding and implementing solutions to create added value for businesses.

He is an expert on Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) issues with over 13 years of experience working in the field of Sustainable Development in Vietnam. As the ESG Director of a leading investment fund in Vietnam, Mr. Cong and VinaCapital are actively contributing to the process of building awareness and capacity for ESG practices for domestic enterprises.

After the sharing session, the speakers entered a discussion session with the topic "Solutions to help businesses develop sustainably". In this session, scientists, managers and business representatives will discuss the reality in businesses, suggesting research directions so that science can participate in solving the problem of sustainable development.
