With the fierce competition of tourist destinations to attract and meet the needs and tastes of tourists, each locality needs to have a new direction. This depends a lot on attracting and training human resources, which is considered one of the important solutions in the current tourism development strategy of the province.

Tourism human resources are constantly improving in quality to attract and meet the tastes of tourists.

Lack of human resources to meet requirements

According to the National Tourism Administration, by 2024, the country will have about 2.25 million tourism workers, accounting for about 2.5% of the total labor force in the country, and only 42% will be trained in tourism, 38% will be transferred from other industries, and about 20% will not have formal training but will only be trained on the job.

In addition to the issue of tourism expertise, one of the current difficulties of the tourism industry is the lack of human resources that meet the requirements of foreign languages and information technology, of which about 30-40% of tour guides, tour operators and 70-80% of restaurant receptionists do not meet foreign language standards, and there are limitations in applying technology in providing tourism services and utilities to tourists.

According to Dr. Dang Thi Ngoc Lan - Cuu Long University, in the context of the 4.0 industrial revolution, digital transformation is reshaping all tourism activities in Vinh Long , from improving service quality, optimizing management to expanding the online advertising market.

The application of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and virtual reality has contributed to creating a more personalized and effective tourism experience for customers. To take advantage of this trend, the province's tourism human resources need to be equipped with in-depth knowledge of digital technology , modern communication skills and a creative spirit, and be continuously trained and nurtured to promptly respond to market changes and competition on a national and international scale.

To meet the trend of digital transformation and improve the efficiency of tourism activities, the province's human resources need to be equipped with a series of skills and in-depth knowledge of digital technology.

Specifically, tourism officers and staff need to be trained in data management, operating tourism management software and applying online marketing tools, in order to keep up with new technology trends. They also need to develop professional communication skills, serve customers according to international standards, and enhance their creativity to offer unique tourism products and services that meet the diverse needs of modern tourists.

In addition to improving the quality of tour guides and interpreters through advanced courses in and outside the province, every year, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism also opens many training courses for those working in the tourism sector to improve quality in a synchronous and comprehensive manner. Professionalism is being demonstrated from the service style of drivers, to managers, tour guides and receptionists of restaurants and hotels...

Strengthen training and coaching

MSc. Dang Dai Cuoc - Vice Principal of Can Tho College of Tourism shared that Vinh Long is one of the localities that uses trained labor to serve the tourism industry with a relatively high rate in the region. In addition to professional skills, most of the workers have also been equipped with knowledge of digital transformation and smart tourism.

However, to have human resources to proactively build, manage and operate the smart tourism system thoroughly and effectively, it is necessary to promote the role of state management agencies, tourism businesses and tourists to help connect and cooperate smoothly in the process of implementing digital transformation on the basis of the province's tourism mechanisms and policies.

For businesses, it is necessary to build a management and operation system on a technology platform; take advantage of big data sources to analyze and understand customers; increase promotion on digital platforms. Restructure the sales system, promote online shopping methods to help customers choose products and tourism services anytime and anywhere, with 24/7 online payment.

According to Master Dang Dai Cuoc, for training institutions, in addition to implementing training programs according to the provisions of law, they must innovate teaching methods according to the requirements of the development of vocational education and university education.

Tourism training institutions need to integrate digital transformation and smart tourism content when organizing the teaching of tourism vocational skills standards when businesses switch to digital business methods. Strengthen the organization of practice and internship for learners at businesses with strengths in digital transformation and smart tourism applications. Invite experts from state management agencies and businesses to participate in teaching, guiding practice, internship, and evaluating learning outcomes in digital transformation and smart tourism content.

In addition, regularly train and update the trend of digital transformation and smart tourism for the teaching staff. Encourage teachers to apply online training, virtual training, simulation, digitize lectures, deploy teaching software for managing tourism, hotel and travel businesses, into the training process.

To strive to achieve the goal of making tourism an important economic sector by 2030, Mr. Duong Hoang Sum, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that among the solutions, it is necessary to continue training and coaching to raise awareness of the role and position of the tourism industry for all levels and sectors in exploiting and developing tourism; improve professional qualifications for management staff and labor force in the tourism industry to meet the requirements of tourism development in the new period.

At the same time, strengthen the effectiveness of state management of tourism, promote decentralization and delegation of authority in tourism management to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of government operations and management of the tourism industry. Regularly coordinate inspections to guide, remind, and control the quality of tourism services, travel agencies, tour guides and prices, and other tourism service establishments to create peace of mind and prestige to attract tourists to the province.
