Amidst the wild beauty of Hon Kho beach in Nhon Hai commune (Quy Nhon city, Binh Dinh), there is a road across the sea, which only appears at certain times, the rest of the time it is hidden under water.
The Hon Kho cross-sea road is about 500m long, connecting two mountain ranges. Hon Kho is located in Hai Dong village, Nhon Hai commune, 16km from Quy Nhon city center. The easiest time to see the Hon Kho cross-sea road is from March to September, however, the exact time should be asked by local people, because the time the road appears is not fixed, depending on the water level.
Locals do not know when the road was built or what material it is made of. Several hypotheses have been put forward to decode this mysterious road. Some suggest that this could be a rare geological phenomenon, where sedimentary rock layers are formed in a special way, creating such a flat and wide surface. Another hypothesis leans towards the possibility that this is an ancient coral reef, which has undergone fossilization and erosion over thousands of years, forming the strange shape it has today.
There is also a hypothesis that this is a trace of human hands, a vestige of a distant civilization that once existed and flourished in this land.
According to Mr. Lam Truong Dinh, Director of the Binh Dinh Province Historical Archives Center, up to now there has not been a single page of historical documents or records about the existence of the road across Hon Kho sea. There are only "old guesses, young guesses" about this project. Sometimes it is mentioned as an ancient road leading to the island, sometimes it is a secret defense project of the ancients.
The mystery of its origin as well as its "emergence" makes this road especially attractive to tourists and those who love to explore .
The feeling of setting foot on a strange structure rising from the sea is a unique and unforgettable experience.
On low tide days, visitors can follow the stone wall, getting closer to Hon Kho, watching the colorful coral reefs hidden under the clear water. The path is covered with a thick layer of moss, but strangely, when walking on it, it is not slippery at all, it feels smooth and soft like velvet.
Many photographers and explorers come to capture impressive moments of this mysterious wall.
With a terrain of many small islands, reefs, coral reefs and underground vegetation, in recent years, Nhon Hai has emerged as an attractive sea tourism destination for visitors. In addition to the curiosity about a mysterious road on the sea, this place is also known for its wild, simple and familiar beauty of a coastal village.
