TPO – Concerned about the quality of education , the Chairman of Buon Ma Thuot City requested a change in thinking, not new clothes.
On the afternoon of September 11, the People's Committee of Buon Ma Thuot City ( Dak Lak ) held a conference to summarize the 2023-2024 school year and deploy tasks for the 2024-2025 school year.
According to the report, by the end of the 2023-2024 school year, the city has 135 schools from kindergarten to junior high school with over 82,100 students; the proportion of ethnic minority students is 16.46%. Last school year, the city's education sector achieved many remarkable results, but there were still many shortcomings.
Mr. Vu Van Hung - Chairman of Buon Ma Thuot City People's Committee acknowledged the efforts of the education sector but also expressed concerns about quality issues.
Looking back at the recent 10th grade entrance exam results, the average score of 3 subjects of public school students was only at an “average” level, lower than that of non-public schools. Meanwhile, the total expenditure on education was nearly 1,000 billion in 2024.

“With such investment, the quality of mass education is still limited and uneven. Key education has not met the requirements, which is very worrying. We should not compare ourselves with the districts of the province. With the scale and investment of the city like that, it is natural for the districts to lead. We have to compare ourselves with other cities (Nha Trang, Quy Nhon, Ha Long...) or with the districts of Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi ... Because the conditions of the city are also favorable, not much different,” Mr. Hung said.
The city leader added that if there is a lack of televisions and computers, you can buy them right away with money. With Buon Ma Thuot's unique mechanism, Mr. Hung promised that by 2027, there will be synchronous investment in schools. What he is most concerned and worried about is the quality of education. Because this is a process, it is necessary to "build the foundation" from preschool to primary and secondary school.
“The capacity and spirit of a number of cadres, managers and teachers have not met the requirements of the new situation. They are not dedicated to their profession, have not worried, have not sought to improve the quality of education,” Mr. Hung said.
He added that the theme of the school year is discipline, responsibility, innovation, creativity, and quality improvement. Therefore, he hopes that each school and each class will have real innovation, not just slogans.
“Innovation is about changing the thinking of the board of directors, teachers, parents and students. Don’t change clothes or uniforms, this is unnecessary. Every year there are hundreds of initiatives and experiences from teachers and administrators; but how many of those initiatives are applied in practice?”, Mr. Hung asked and asked each cadre and teacher not to chase after quantity and titles.

Mr. Hung requires each manager and teacher to be proactive, creative, learn new educational models, boldly socialize, and mobilize contributions from parents. However, he strictly prohibits overcharging, and any school or individual who violates will be severely punished.
