Cai Mep International Port and Saigon New Port open common gate

This event marks a new step forward in the model of cooperation in exploiting and developing seaports in the Cai Mep area.

Representatives of the two ports agreed to open a common gate.

In the context of shipping lines increasingly placing high demands on operating productivity, ports in the Cai Mep area are facing pressure to increase operating capacity, improve service quality and increase ship reception capacity.

However, with the current infrastructure reaching its limits and the lack of close connections between ports, it is still unable to meet the growing needs of customers and shipping lines.

The cooperation in opening a connection gateway and exploiting a common wharf between the two ports TCTT - CMIT is a pioneering alliance solution to solve the above challenges. The cooperation between the two ports aims to take advantage of the synchronous infrastructure, thereby forming an interconnected port with a total wharf length of up to 1,200m.

In response to the proposal of the two ports, the Ministry of Transport has issued a document approving the policy of allowing research into connecting common berths between the two ports TCTT and CMIT.

This cooperation also received support from the General Department of Customs, the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Customs Department and the Cai Mep Port Customs Branch and allowed goods to be transported between the two ports through an internal connection portal.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Ky, General Director of CMIT Port shared, "The support of maritime agencies and customs agencies at all levels as well as the attention of provincial leaders is an important basis not only for the two ports to implement the next steps in researching the formation of a common wharf in the middle to improve port exploitation efficiency but also further to create conditions for developing Cai Mep into the largest international transit port in the country and of regional and world stature as set out in Resolution No. 24-NQ/TW of the Politburo ".
