Flash flood and landslide warning due to heavy rain in 15 northern provinces on June 10

From the night of June 9-10, the midland and mountainous areas of the North will have moderate to heavy rain, and in some places very heavy rain, warning of the risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides on steep slopes.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from 2:00 p.m. on June 9 to 8:00 a.m. on June 10, the Northern provinces had moderate rain, heavy rain, and some places had very heavy rain such as: Ha Lang 144.2 mm (Tuyen Quang); Muong Khieng 128.6 mm (Son La); Pa Ve Su 116.4 mm (Lai Chau); Nam Luc 1 111.8 mm (Lao Cai); Bao Lac 107.3 mm (Cao Bang); Binh Son 94.6 mm (Hoa Binh); Uong Bi 87.4 mm (Quang Ninh); Kien Lao 86.2 mm ( Bac Giang )... The soil moisture model shows that some areas in the above provinces are nearly saturated (over 85%) or have reached a saturated state.

The meteorological agency said that on the morning of June 10, the northern provinces will continue to have rain with accumulated rainfall ranging from 15 to 40 mm, with some places exceeding 60 mm. Warnings of the risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides on steep slopes in 15 localities.

The meteorological agency warns that flash floods and landslides can have a very negative impact on the environment, threaten people's lives; cause local traffic congestion, affect the movement of vehicles; destroy civil and economic works, causing damage to production, economic and social activities. At the same time, it recommends that localities pay attention to reviewing bottlenecks and vulnerable locations in the area to take preventive measures.

People and local authorities in the affected areas need to regularly monitor forecast and warning information on the website of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting at "nchmf.gov.vn", provincial, municipal and regional Hydro-Meteorological Stations. At the same time, regularly update the latest hydro-meteorological forecast information on the official mass media of the Central and local levels to proactively respond.

According to the guidance of the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), in the face of the above situation, affected areas should closely monitor developments of heavy rain, floods, flash floods, landslides, and promptly and fully inform authorities at all levels and people to proactively prevent, respond, and minimize damage.

Localities deploy shock forces to inspect and review residential areas along rivers, streams, and low-lying areas to proactively organize the relocation and evacuation of people in areas at high risk of deep flooding, flash floods, and landslides; organize forces ready to control and direct traffic, and place warning signs, especially through culverts, spillways, and areas with deep flooding and fast-flowing water; proactively arrange forces, materials, and means to overcome incidents, ensuring smooth traffic on main traffic routes when heavy rain occurs...
