Flood warning on Ma River

SCB Dien Bien Company Muong Luan 1 Hydropower Plant has issued Notice No. 0508/2025/TB-SDB dated August 5, 2025 on the discharge of floodwaters from Muong Luan 1 and 2 Hydropower Plants. The discharge time is from 5:30 p.m. on August 5, 2025 until the end of the impact of this flood. The total discharge flow is from 150 m3/s to 450 m3/s.

The water level on the Ma River at the Cau Song Ma hydrological station at 6:00 p.m. on August 5, 2025 was at 31,885 cm, 115 cm lower than alarm level 1. At the Xa La hydrological station at 6:00 p.m. on August 5, 2025, it was at 27,880 cm, 70 cm lower than alarm level 1;

Son La Hydrometeorological Station warns that from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on August 5, 2025, the water level at Cau Song Ma Hydrological Station is likely to reach 32,005 cm, 05 cm higher than the alarm level 1, and will continue to change in an upward trend. From 9:00 p.m. to 12:00 p.m. on August 5, 2025, the water level at Xa La Hydrological Station is likely to reach 28,035 cm, 85 cm higher than the alarm level 1, and will continue to change in an upward trend.

In the Ma River basin, people in Chieng Khoong, Muong Hung, Chieng Khuong communes and people in villages in the reservoir area and downstream of Muong Hung hydropower dam are advised to be on guard against landslides and flooding in low-lying areas.

Heavy rain occurred in Song Ma commune at 5:00 p.m. on August 5.
