Warning of heat and seasonal weather affecting aquaculture

According to forecasts from May to August, the Central region, including Khanh Hoa, will continue to have hot weather, with heat intensity equivalent to the average of many years.

The Department of Fisheries, Seas and Islands of Khanh Hoa province has just sent a dispatch to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of coastal localities warning that hot weather and changing seasons could affect aquaculture.

According to forecasts, from May to August, the Central region, including Khanh Hoa , will continue to experience heat waves with an intensity equivalent to the average of many years. To limit risks and ensure production plans, localities need to urgently inform and guide farmers to apply measures to strengthen management of farmed objects during the hot season and the transitional weather.

Specifically, for cage-raised lobsters, farmers need to reduce density; choose a location with a minimum depth of 4m for fixed cages, 6m for submerged cages and 8m for floating cages at low tide; cover with nets to reduce direct sunlight; add oxygen promptly when the weather is hot or there are thunderstorms; clean cages regularly to increase water circulation; add nutrients to increase resistance and closely monitor the status of shrimp and the farming environment to respond promptly...

For brackish water shrimp, it is necessary to monitor water temperature and algae color; increase water fanning time, especially from 10pm to 5am the next day to increase oxygen content, especially at the bottom of the pond; reduce 20-30% of feed when it is hot, stop feeding when the sun is harsh, only feed early in the morning or in the cool afternoon. In addition, it is necessary to add vitamins, minerals, digestive enzymes, herbs to the feed; observe abnormal signs of shrimp; stock the shrimp at a density appropriate to the actual conditions and farming process to facilitate care and management...
