According to Ho Chi Minh City Police, along with the popularity and interest of parents and people in summer extracurriculareducation models for students and teenagers (such as: Police and military semesters; pilot semesters, art summer camps, English summer camps, outdoor summer camps...), the situation of fraud is also becoming more complicated.
Many people become victims of fraud and property appropriation when accessing unofficial information.
Accordingly, the subjects took advantage of parents' interest in extracurricular education models to create many "scenarios" to scam such as: Creating fake websites and social networking sites to introduce extracurricular education models; using online advertising services to approach and deliver fraudulent content to victims.
Fake websites/social networking sites copy the original (name, address, program, content, images, videos ...) of the fake units, only changing the contact information (phone number, email, consulting account) to lure victims.
Common methods include asking victims to transfer a deposit or pay 100% of the tuition fee to receive a discount; announcing that the summer camp is free to lure victims into performing tasks to receive promotions and free incentives.
In the first tasks, the subject will pay rewards to “stimulate” and entice the victim to participate in “higher” tasks to receive more rewards. After that, the website reports an error, asking the victim to continue transferring money to appropriate.
In fact, this is not a new scenario but still traps many victims with sophisticated tricks.
The Public Security Agency recommends that people need to raise their awareness when receiving information on the Internet, be careful when searching for and choosing extracurricular education models; at the same time, they must directly contact agencies, units and centers providing summer camp models to evaluate and check before deciding to pay.
When discovering fake or fraudulent pages or channels, people need to immediately report to the nearest police agency for support and resolution.
In addition, agencies, units, and educational centers organizing summer camp models need to proactively provide information to press agencies, local authorities, schools, and mass organizations so that parents can access and make appropriate choices, avoiding the risk of falling into fraud traps, affecting people's finances and the reputation of the unit./.
