The first bilateral conference between the Vietnam Coast Guard and the Philippine Coast Guard took place on April 24 in Hanoi .
At the conference, Major General Le Quang Dao - Commander of the Vietnam Coast Guard and Admiral Ronnie Gil L Gavan, Commander of the Philippine Coast Guard highly appreciated the cooperation results between the two forces.
Major General Le Quang Dao emphasized that the relationship between the two sides is developing smoothly and effectively since the Commanders of the two forces signed and exchanged the Memorandum of Understanding on maritime cooperation between the two forces, witnessed bythe President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the President of the Republic of the Philippines in January 2024.
The two sides also discussed cooperation activities in 2024. The two sides agreed that the Vietnam Coast Guard plans to send ships to visit and exchange with the Philippine Coast Guard; the Philippine Coast Guard will consider sending officers to participate in the second "Vietnam Coast Guard and Friends" exchange program; and organize the second bilateral conference between the two forces in the Philippines.
In addition, the two sides will actively participate in programs, training courses, and conferences hosted by both sides; responsibly participate in activities within the multilateral framework of which both sides are members and continue to enhance information exchange on law enforcement at sea, combating piracy, armed robbery, and search and rescue.
The conference took place in a friendly and open atmosphere. The two sides reached a high consensus on continuing to promote cooperation in maritime law enforcement between the two forces in accordance with international law, serving the common goal of the two countries for a secure, safe and prosperous sea in the region./.
