Anti-smuggling and counterfeit goods peak in Mong Cai city

As a border locality with an important strategic position, Mong Cai has always been identified as a hot spot in the fight against smuggling and trade fraud (BLGLTM).

Since the beginning of the year, functional units in Mong Cai City have made many efforts, actively engaged in the work, closely following the objectives and tasks, regularly inspecting and controlling key areas and seriously and effectively implementing the direction of the Central and the province on the fight against smuggling and counterfeiting, preventing the formation of large-scale smuggling, transportation and harboring of smuggled and counterfeit goods in the area. Therefore, smuggling and counterfeiting activities in the area have been restrained and controlled.

On May 27, Market Management Team No. 4, Provincial Market Management Department in coordination with the Economic Police Department (Provincial Police) and the Customs Control Team (Customs Department of Region VIII) inspected a frozen warehouse in Village 5, Quang Nghia Commune (Mong Cai City), a warehouse owned by Mr. D.XS, residing in Village 1, Quang Long Commune (Hai Ha District), and discovered more than 25 tons of frozen food of unknown origin, including: 25 tons of squid, 300kg of beef tripe and 160kg of chicken feet, stored in carton boxes and plastic baskets. Since the beginning of the year, the city's functional agencies have arrested and handled 191 cases, with 189 subjects related to illegal trading, counterfeit goods, banned goods and food safety violations. Of these, 139 cases involved illegal trading, transportation and gathering of banned and smuggled goods; 38 cases involved commercial fraud, tax fraud and 14 cases involved production, trading and purchase of counterfeit goods. At the same time, 180 administrative violations were handled with a total amount of over 2.3 billion VND; 8 cases were handled criminally, with 15 subjects involved in illegal trading and counterfeit goods.

The fight against counterfeiting, production and trading of counterfeit and poor quality goods in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, functional food, medicinal herbs and traditional medicine groups has received special attention and been resolutely handled with 8 cases/8 subjects arrested and handled, with evidence of violations including 4,815 units of various cosmetic products.

In the coming time, the functional forces in the city will strengthen the synchronous implementation of professional measures to manage and control the assigned areas, focusing on key items and the main methods and tricks of subjects illegally transporting goods across the border that have been provided, resolutely not allowing the formation of smuggling hotspots. In particular, strictly implement the direction of the Working Group of the Provincial People's Committee Chairman on the peak of the fight to prevent and repel crimes of counterfeit goods and trade fraud during the inspection in the city on May 26. That is, resolutely not allowing establishments producing and trading in counterfeit goods and trade fraud, especially dirty food, to affect the health of people and consumers. The functional agencies of the province must truly play a core role, be the pioneer force, directly detect, handle and eradicate acts of counterfeit goods and trade fraud right from the grassroots level; Pay special attention to and study the implementation of smart border gates at Bac Luan I and Bac Luan II border gates; strengthen coordination between functional forces in border areas to carry out tasks in preventing smuggling and counterfeit goods.
