Nowadays, the number of people suffering from spinal diseases is increasing, so the need for comprehensive solutions for effective and modern spinal treatment is becoming more and more necessary. Experts from countries such as the US and France when coming to Vietnam were very surprised because in just a short time, the most advanced techniques in the field of spine can be deployed in the S-shaped country.

Mr. Duong Duc Hung - Director of Viet Duc Friendship Hospital emphasized this at the Scientific Conference on Comprehensive Solutions in Spinal Surgery, organized by Viet Duc Friendship Hospital in collaboration with the Vietnam Spinal Surgery Association on May 6-7.

According to Mr. Hung, spinal diseases are increasingly becoming a serious health problem, directly affecting the quality of life, working ability and daily activities of millions of people. Conditions such as multi-level spinal degeneration, scoliosis in children, and spinal stenosis not only cause prolonged pain but also have the potential for many dangerous complications if not diagnosed and treated promptly.

“We often talk about spinal injuries acquired during labor and work, but the field of congenital spinal diseases such as hunchback and scoliosis is receiving little attention, especially in children. Children are not miniature adults, diseases in adults and children are different, what is related to children's motor system is congenital, so early diagnosis is very important, in which surgery is one of the most effective treatment options,” said Dr. Hung.

According to him, the attention paid to musculoskeletal diseases, including spinal diseases in children, is not the same as that in adults. Hopefully, with investment in modern robotic equipment, the accuracy of surgery will increase and more children will be operated on with good results.

Viet Duc Friendship Hospital has planned to add more robotic systems and surgical microscopes to support doctors with better equipment to perform surgeries with better accuracy and results. In addition, the hospital annually holds training sessions, exchanges, and learning sessions with international units to improve professional qualifications. Many doctors are sent abroad for training to update new techniques in spinal surgery, to serve people when implementing advanced techniques right in Vietnam, without having to go abroad for treatment.

Dr. S. Vidyadhara - Head of Spinal Surgery Department, Manipal Hospital, India, assessed that Vietnamese doctors have high professional qualifications and extensive experience in surgery for difficult and complex spinal diseases. The application of robots in the treatment of spinal diseases helps to support higher efficiency in treatment. Surgery using the robotic system helps to be more effective in screwing, reducing the risk of nerve damage, and avoiding complications for patients. In particular, for patients, a very important benefit is less pain after surgery, less blood loss, faster recovery, fewer complications and reduced treatment costs.

At the workshop, experts also discussed the latest applications in spinal surgery today, including: Surgical Robot Applications, Navigation positioning systems, O-arms and intraoperative neuromonitoring. The above three cutting-edge technologies help: Increase surgical precision, minimize the risk of complications, optimize treatment effectiveness and patient recovery.

In addition, the event also featured live demonstration surgeries, helping domestic and foreign doctors observe actual procedures and share clinical experiences in a lively and effective manner./.
