The pedestrian bridge across the Saigon River connecting District 1 to Thu Thiem Urban Area will not be funded by the budget but is expected to be built by a sponsor and then donated to the city.
In a recent dispatch sent to the Department of Transport and related units regarding the plan to build a pedestrian bridge across the Saigon River, city leaders approved the investment policy and accepted sponsorship from domestic organizations and individuals to build the bridge.

Currently, the project has been approved by the city government for its architectural design with the image of water coconut leaves - a typical image of the South. This is considered a unique, impressive, non-duplicated, simple architectural form, expected to attract people and tourists to Ho Chi Minh City.
The pedestrian bridge is built between Ba Son Bridge and Saigon River Tunnel. On the District 1 side, the foot of the bridge is expected to be in the Bach Dang Wharf Park area. On the Thu Thiem side, the foot of the bridge is located in the riverside park and outside the boundary of Area A - south of the Central Square of this urban area. This is one of 5 bridges and a tunnel connecting Thu Thiem New Urban Area, Thu Duc City through the surrounding areas.

The Ho Chi Minh City leaders assigned the Department of Transport to coordinate with relevant parties to discuss, negotiate, and sign an agreement on behalf of the city government with the sponsor to have a basis for implementing the next steps. The total investment capital for the project will also be specifically calculated later.
Previously, the City Department of Transport said that the regulations and procedures for receiving projects funded by funding sources currently do not have specific instructions. Therefore, the Department has applied relevant regulations and built a temporary process with 15 steps, throughout the implementation process until receiving the project. This agency will continue to perfect the above process for appropriate implementation.
Ho Chi Minh City is aiming to start construction on the pedestrian bridge across the Saigon River on April 30, 2025, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of national reunification.
