With its beautiful and diverse landscapes, ranging from hills and plains to seas and islands, Quang Ninh boasts an incredibly rich and varied system of natural and cultural heritage, embodying the unique cultural values of many ethnic groups and regions. Visitors to Quang Ninh can explore Ha Long Bay – a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized three times – as well as hundreds of historical sites, scenic spots, and the treasure trove of intangible cultural heritage of the ethnic communities.
To ensure these "priceless assets" truly flourish in the new context, in recent years, the province has proactively issued many fundamental policies and resolutions, most notably Resolution No. 17-NQ/TU dated October 30, 2023, on building and promoting the cultural and human values of Quang Ninh to become an endogenous resource for rapid and sustainable development. One of the important goals set out in the Resolution is to digitize 100% of historical and cultural relics, scenic spots, and intangible cultural forms that have been ranked before 2030. At the same time, the task of developing the cultural industry and heritage economy , linked with innovation and digital transformation, is placed at the forefront.
Based on that orientation, in the last two years, Quang Ninh has made rapid and strong progress in applying digital technology to the conservation and promotion of heritage sites, such as: building databases, digitizing 3D national relics and national treasures; and creating diverse tourism experience spaces. Notably, the Quang Ninh Museum has created a section titled "Introducing Representative Artifacts" on its website and Zalo OA; producing explanatory videos, 360-degree photos, and 3D simulations. In particular, the 3D virtual museum system allows residents and tourists to easily visit, learn, and experience remotely in a vivid and convenient way.
Mr. Nguyen Duy Phuong (a tourist from Da Nang City) said: "I am very impressed with the digital application at the Quang Ninh Museum. Right in the exhibition space 'Yen Tu Relics - Tran Dynasty in Quang Ninh,' the museum uses online screens to connect with three points of the Yen Tu Relics: cable car station 1, cable car station 2, and the Ancestor Tower area. This helped us to visit and experience the real landscape of the relics, adding to the emotional impact when watching and listening to the explanations about the historical and cultural value of the relics."

In the Dao Thanh Y cultural space in Yen Tu ward, all images and documents about customs, costumes, and lifestyles have been digitized and integrated into a touch-screen system, helping visitors access cultural knowledge in a visual and engaging way. Similarly, at the recent exhibition of books, newspapers, documents, and documentary photographs and posters celebrating the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term, the organizers used VR technology to recreate the moment President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, opening up a new approach to history, particularly captivating young people.
Simultaneously, the province is strongly implementing smart tourism platforms: cashless ticket sales, multilingual automated tour guides, mobile applications integrating information on festivals, traditional crafts, history, and culture, and 360-degree tourism platforms… These solutions not only enhance the visitor experience but also contribute to building a professional, transparent, and modern tourism environment.

Thanks to coordinated efforts, Quang Ninh's tourism sector has recorded strong growth in recent years. In 2024, the province welcomed over 19 million tourists, generating tourism revenue of more than 46,500 billion VND. In the first 11 months of 2025, the province welcomed over 19.8 million tourists, a 10% increase compared to the same period in 2024, with total tourism revenue reaching approximately 52,600 billion VND, a 21% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
In the new era of development, in response to the demands of reality, for digital transformation to truly become a driving force for the development of culture, people, and tourism in Quang Ninh, the province has identified the need to continue implementing several key solutions in a coordinated manner: Completing the digital database for the entire sector; expanding 3D digitization; strongly applying AI, AR/VR in heritage simulation, developing virtual experiential tours, and online classes on local culture and history, thereby attracting the attention of young people and international tourists. Simultaneously, perfecting the policy framework to encourage businesses to invest in heritage technology, prioritizing the development of innovative technology startups in the culture and tourism sector; training and nurturing digital human resources in the cultural sector, from management staff to artisans, tour guides, and tourism businesses; promoting international cooperation, technology transfer, and learning from modern heritage management experiences.
Digital transformation is not only a solution for preserving heritage in a physical sense, but also opens up new approaches, helping the historical and cultural values of Quang Ninh to spread strongly and sustainably within the community. When technology becomes a tool to make culture more vibrant and accessible, heritage will not only be protected but also become an important resource contributing to the realization of the province's development goals in the new era.
