Since early May, the Vietnamese women's team has been training in Hanoi to prepare for the 2026 Asian Cup qualifiers, with Group E matches taking place at Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho province) from June 29 to July 5.
Notably, during the training session, coach Mai Duc Chung called up overseas Vietnamese player Nguyen Hoang Nam Mi to try out.
Nam Mi was born in 2003 in Canada, with both parents being Vietnamese. She plays as a central midfielder and has played for the Canadian U15 and U17 teams.
Sharing before the afternoon practice session on June 3, midfielder Nam Mi said she is gradually getting used to the environment of the Vietnamese women's team, and is receiving a lot of help from the whole team, both professionally and in daily life.
Interestingly, Nam Mi answered entirely in Vietnamese: "The weather is a bit hot but I'm getting used to it. The coaching staff and teammates help a lot so the adaptation time is also fast. I still have a lot to learn.
The girls on the team talked to me a lot. They also spoke English if there was anything I didn't understand. The whole team was friendly."
When asked about her long-term goal with Vietnamese football, Nam Mi said: "I really like playing football in Vietnam. But I still have one year of university left, and I have to return to Canada this August to continue my studies. It will probably be another year and a half before I can return to Vietnam.
I haven't decided clearly about my future. After graduating from university, I can do anything, but I really want to return to Vietnam."

Talking about the most difficult thing during this Vietnam women's team gathering, Nam Mi honestly said: "In Vietnam, the weather is hot so I have to try hard. No one can help me with this because everyone feels hot too.
Vietnamese football is played quickly and skillfully, while in Canada, you need to be big and strong. The team's coaching staff also often have time to rest and recover, and practice relaxation."
According to the plan, the Vietnamese women's team will leave for Japan for training on the morning of June 8. It is expected that the team will have 3 friendly matches with local women's clubs.
