After years of contributing their youth to build and protect the country, the former Youth Volunteers are now old, many of them in extremely difficult circumstances. The City's Association of Former Youth Volunteers regularly mobilizes social resources to help their comrades improve their lives and have a solid, stable place to live. Over the past twenty years, the association has supported the construction and repair of 118 gratitude houses, worth nearly 3 billion VND in total, for its members.
Former Youth Volunteer Nguyen Ngoc Tam (An Khe Ward) is one of the cases receiving financial support for house construction. After years of volunteering to participate in building a new economy in the Central Highlands, Mr. Tam returned to Da Nang to start a business. In recent years, he has lived with his wife and 3 children in a dilapidated, leaky house that floods every time it rains heavily. He has dreamed of a solid house for many years, but the unstable income from his job as a bricklayer has forced him to put his dream on hold.
Faced with that situation, the City Youth Volunteer Veterans Association supported him with 70 million VND to rebuild the house. In June 2025, the completed house is nearly 75 square meters wide, tall and sturdy, giving the family peace of mind during each rainy and stormy season.

Many former Youth Volunteers have declining health as they age, suffering from many illnesses, especially eye diseases. The Association coordinates with local medical units to organize free examinations, treatment, and surgeries for eye diseases for many disadvantaged members.
A typical case is Mr. Nguyen Van Hien (Hoa Xuan ward) who has had cataracts for many years, but due to economic difficulties, he has not been able to afford surgery. The Association introduced him to Viet An Eye Hospital for free surgery. The surgery was successful, now he can go to the market, clean, and do daily activities without depending on his children and grandchildren.
One of the highlights of the City’s Association of Former Youth Volunteers is maintaining and effectively promoting the Comradeship Fund, which has so far reached over 1.3 billion VND. From this fund, the association supports members with interest-free loans to invest in small livelihood models for economic development.
President of the Association of Former Youth Volunteers of Da Nang City Pham Thi Thao said that the association determines that taking care of the lives and benefits of members is a continuous task, closely linked to the humanistic values and tradition of solidarity of the Youth Volunteers force.
Since the beginning of the year, the association has mobilized nearly 3,000 gifts for members in difficult circumstances, with a total cost of nearly 2.5 billion VND. At the same time, it has actively supported the construction of charity houses, organized free medical examinations and treatment, given insurance cards, and provided livelihoods for difficult cases...
