Proactively prevent epidemics

According to the city's Center for Disease Control (CDC), from the beginning of 2025 until now, Da Nang has recorded more than 2,710 cases of dengue fever and 110 small outbreaks. In particular, the dengue fever epidemic situation in Da Nang is on the rise and at a high level. The results of dengue virus isolation tests showed that 95% of positive samples were type D2 virus, which is the type of virus that often causes severe complications and can be fatal.

Dr. Nguyen Dai Vinh, Director of CDC Da Nang, said that the unit is focusing on directing and providing professional guidance on the investigation, monitoring, handling and prevention of dengue fever. At the same time, it is strengthening inspection, monitoring and proactively detecting high-risk areas and small outbreaks early to thoroughly handle them, preventing the epidemic from breaking out, spreading and prolonging.

Implement propaganda activities so that people actively respond to disease prevention measures for individuals and communities; proactively participate in cleaning up stagnant water containers where larvae and mosquitoes develop and tightly cover containers containing domestic water.

“CDC Da Nang regularly organizes inspection, monitoring and direction teams to prevent dengue fever at hotspots and areas at risk of outbreaks. At the same time, it organizes training and guidance in many forms on patient monitoring, insect monitoring, chemical spraying techniques, mosquito larvae and mosquito larvae eradication, outbreak handling, and communication skills for preventive health workers at all levels,” informed Dr. Nguyen Dai Vinh.

The leader of the People's Committee of An Hai Ward said that he has directed agencies, units, and schools in the area to actively coordinate with health agencies to effectively implement measures to prevent dengue fever. Mobilize forces to clean the environment, thoroughly handle mosquito breeding grounds, kill larvae, etc. to prevent dengue fever.

Limit complications

To strengthen the diagnosis, treatment and care of dengue fever patients, minimize complications and deaths caused by dengue fever, the Department of Health requires public and private hospitals and regional medical centers to regularly update guidelines for diagnosis, treatment and treatment regimens for dengue fever for doctors, nurses and medical staff at the unit.

Timely detect cases with warning signs and severe cases according to the instructions of the Ministry of Health to effectively carry out consultation work in many forms and transfer to the right hospital, not allowing serious complications or death due to incorrect or untimely transfer; avoid the risk of increased overload at city hospitals.

According to Dr. Truong Quang Binh, Deputy Director of the Department of Health, currently, the D2 virus type has a high rate of causing serious complications, possibly death, and is circulating at a large rate in Da Nang. Therefore, the Department of Health has assigned Da Nang Hospital and Da Nang Maternity and Children's Hospital to immediately organize training courses on diagnosis and treatment of dengue fever with warning signs and severe dengue fever for doctors and nurses at medical examination and treatment facilities in the city. At the same time, professional teams have been established to support, consult, and provide information to medical examination and treatment units in the area.

The leaders of the Da Nang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital said that the unit has prepared resources in terms of human resources, drugs, supplies, biological products, and treatment areas to organize the admission and treatment of patients and carry out disease surveillance; proactively deploy training courses on diagnosis and treatment of dengue fever.

According to Dr. Ngo Van Dinh Hoai, Director of Son Tra Regional Medical Center, in addition to proactively monitoring, treating and caring for dengue fever patients, the unit also directs officers and employees to closely monitor, detect early, promptly and thoroughly handle individual cases, high-risk areas, and dengue fever outbreaks.

In particular, coordinate with units and schools to propagate and educate health about disease prevention measures, early recognition of symptoms and encourage students and parents to proactively go to medical facilities when there are suspicious signs; as well as promptly notify health agencies when detecting cases of the disease for coordinated handling, not to let the epidemic spread in schools.
