New cigarettes, especially electronic cigarettes, contain nicotine, a highly addictive and toxic chemical. Nicotine causes acute poisoning to many organs, especially the cardiovascular, nervous, and respiratory systems, with symptoms similar to pesticide poisoning.
Prolonged exposure to nicotine (smoking) affects many different organs: causing atherosclerosis, narrowing of blood vessels in various places, increased blood lipids, increased blood sugar, decreased elastin in lung parenchyma causing alveolar dilation, airway damage and bronchospasm...
In e-cigarettes, nicotine is usually added in larger doses than in regular cigarettes, in liquid or powder form (a device that can be inhaled for several thousand puffs).
In particular, nicotine is produced synthetically, usually in salt form, with a pH adjusted to cause less discomfort to the respiratory tract, and at the same time, in quantities that lead to users being easily poisoned and quickly leading to nicotine addiction.
Previously, nicotine was produced in large quantities with the only application in life as a pesticide. However, due to its high toxicity, nicotine has been banned from use as a pesticide in many countries. In Vietnam, nicotine is no longer used as a pesticide due to its high toxicity and harmful effects on health.
Studies show that e-cigarettes contain many toxic substances, additives, and flavorings. To mask the harshness of nicotine and make the product more pleasant, easier to inhale, and create an attractive flavor that attracts users, manufacturers also use many types of flavorings such as mint, apple, orange, lemon, etc.
There are currently about 20,000 types of flavorings, many of which have not been fully evaluated for their harmfulness to health. The electronic cigarette industry is where flavorings are used the most in today's life. It is estimated that every month in the world, about 242 new flavoring chemicals are created.
When heated or burned at different temperatures, it will create many times more chemicals as intermediate combustion products and final combustion products than regular cigarettes, so the risk of harm to health is very high.
Due to the high risk of health effects and the diverse, complex and uncontrollable nature, governments have regulated or completely banned flavorings in e-cigarettes.

Not only nicotine, toxic chemicals, many types of drugs are put into electronic cigarettes to increase the feeling of "high" and attract and entice users. Initially, cannabis essential oils and substances from cannabis plants, in recent years, many new types of drugs have been found in electronic cigarettes, especially hundreds of new generation synthetic drugs belonging to the group of synthetic cannabis. This is the largest group of new generation drugs, constantly being created and changed beyond the control lists.
Synthetic cannabis drugs are potent neurotoxic, psychiatric, cardiovascular and multi-organ toxicants, with varying toxicity depending on the particular substance. Testing for the full range of synthetic cannabis drugs is simply not feasible for all leading laboratories in the world.
In fact, among drugs, synthetic cannabis drugs are and will dominate, posing the greatest challenge to countries. Electronic cigarettes are the main container and circulation of synthetic cannabis drugs.
The World Health Organization has warned that all types of tobacco, including e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products, are harmful. In addition to the harmful effects on health, they also pose a risk of serious social problems. Therefore, it is necessary to urgently take measures to prevent them in time, to avoid more people in the future becoming addicted to nicotine and harming their health.
It is known that the Ministry of Health is studying the proposal to the Government to submit to the National Assembly a Resolution banning the production, trading, import, and advertising of electronic cigarettes, heated tobacco products, and other new drug products that may appear in the future. In the long term, the Ministry of Health will submit to the Government and the National Assembly for consideration and amendment of the Law on Prevention of Tobacco Harms to add this provision to the Law to ensure stability in implementation.
