After 80 years of building, fighting and growing, the Nha Trang City Armed Forces have always promoted their revolutionary traditions and successfully completed all assigned tasks. In the new period, the city's armed forces have made comprehensive and steady developments, making important contributions to local defense and security tasks.

Glorious tradition

Exactly 80 years ago, on May 10, 1945, the Nha Trang City Armed Forces were established. This event had great historical significance, marking an important turning point in the history of the revolutionary struggle of the people of Nha Trang. From the first guerrilla teams, with rudimentary weapons, but with a passionate patriotism and determination to fight, the Nha Trang Armed Forces, together with the people, rose up to seize power in the August Revolution of 1945.

During the August Revolution, the people of Nha Trang - Vinh Xuong rose up and won, contributing with the whole country to overthrow the domination of the Japanese militarists and French colonialists, and regaining power for the people. In the early days of the resistance war, the army and people of Nha Trang - Vinh Xuong fought fiercely, besieging and stopping the French army for 101 days and nights in the town, fulfilling the task of maintaining the vital traffic route from North to South, contributing with the whole country to support the resistance war in the South. At the same time, stopping the enemy's plot to expand the war of aggression to the whole province and the provinces of the South Central Coast, creating conditions for other localities to have time to step up guerrilla warfare in the temporarily occupied areas, consolidate and build forces to prepare for a long-term resistance war. Together with the whole people, the armed forces of Nha Trang - Vinh Xuong successfully carried out the sacred resistance war, defeating the professional invaders of the French colonialists with the help of American imperialism.

During the resistance war against the US to save the country, the army and people of Nha Trang - Vinh Xuong, in extremely difficult and arduous conditions, upheld the spirit of bravery and persistent struggle, against all extremely barbaric terrorist and repressive tactics of the US and its henchmen. Under the leadership of the Party, especially in the light of the Resolution of the Second Central Executive Committee (2nd term), the people of Nha Trang - Vinh Xuong rose up to overthrow the puppet regime of the US imperialists, build the armed forces, and establish a revolutionary government. Peace was restored, the city's armed forces continued to maintain their core role in protecting the achievements of the revolution, contributing to the development of the homeland.

After 1975, the city's armed forces continued to promote their heroic traditions, affirming their role as the core force in the cause of building a national defense, associated with a solid people's security posture, actively participating in building and defending the Fatherland, contributing to maintaining political security, social order and safety, creating conditions for the city's socio-economic development.

In recent years, on the basis of closely following the direction of Military Region 5, the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Committee and the Nha Trang City Party Committee, the City Military Command has proactively advised the local Party Committee and authorities on many policies and measures to lead and direct local military and defense work that is close to reality, focused and key. The work of building forces, training and combat readiness has always been identified by the city's Military Command as a central task. In the period of 2020 - 2025, the City Military Command has synchronously deployed solutions to improve training quality, regularly innovated training content, forms and methods that are close to reality, suitable to the requirements of the tasks and combat areas. Units regularly organize inspections, competitions and sports events; focus on training militia and self-defense forces, reserve mobilization, ensuring practicality and effectiveness. In particular, the standing force always strictly maintains combat readiness, closely coordinates with the police and other forces to maintain political security and social order and safety in the area.

Currently, the city's militia and self-defense force is built with a reasonable scale and quantity; the party membership rate is 21.82% (party members in the militia alone are 16.75%). Reserve soldiers are arranged into reserve mobilization units at 98.22%, with proper military profession at 85.46%, and party members at 12.75%. Every year, 100% of training targets are completed, checking the readiness to mobilize reserve soldiers, technical means and training targets, training reserve officers to transfer, and training basic military sectors. In the past 5 years alone, the City Military Command has organized training for tens of thousands of officers, professional soldiers, non-commissioned officers, soldiers, militia and self-defense forces, and reserve mobilization forces with good results or better, ensuring absolute safety.

With its outstanding achievements, over the years, the Nha Trang City Military Command has been commended and awarded many noble titles by all levels. In particular, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the city's Military Command's Traditional Day, the Nha Trang City Military Command was honored to receive the Third Class Fatherland Protection Medal from the President.

In the work of building defense zones, the City Military Command has actively advised the City Party Committee and the City People's Committee on policies and measures to build strong potentials; participated in the defense zone combined with civil defense drills (2023) with good results, ensuring absolute safety. Every year, it directs communes and wards to conduct combat drills in defense zones to complete their tasks well, ensuring safety... Thereby, contributing to raising awareness and responsibility of Party committees, authorities, departments, branches, organizations, armed forces and people about defense and military tasks, improving the level of combat advisory work, coordination and cooperation capabilities, leadership, command and operation capacity of agencies and leaders and commanders at all levels...

Along with that, the city's military always focuses on promoting and improving the effectiveness of mass mobilization work. Cadres and soldiers always well implement models, movements, and campaigns launched by superiors and localities, such as: "Skilled mass mobilization", Building "Good mass mobilization units", "The army joins hands for the poor - leaving no one behind", "The city's armed forces join hands to build new rural areas", "Rice jars for the poor", "Join hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in Nha Trang City in 2025", "Zero-dong stalls", "Zero-dong market - Tet of love", "Giving breeding cows to the poor", "Spring Zone 5 solidarity - Tet full of military-civilian affection", "Helping children go to school", "Godmother"... Not only that, every rainy and stormy season, the city's armed forces are present at key points, working with people to prevent and fight natural disasters, rescue, help people overcome the consequences of natural disasters, and quickly stabilize their lives... With those specific and practical actions, the cadres, The city's military soldiers have contributed to beautifying the beautiful image of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" in the new era.
