At around 12 noon, smoke and fire broke out from the parking lot on Le Hong Phong Street, Ward 12. Many parking attendants and residents used mini fire extinguishers to put out the fire but were unsuccessful. A few minutes later, the fire flared up violently, black smoke covered the entire area, threatening to spread to many other cars.
Two people tried to break the windows of the cars near the burning car to move it to another place. Some people drove their cars away from the parking lot to avoid the fire spreading. Many fire trucks and dozens of soldiers arrived at the scene. Firefighters pulled out hoses and tried to put out the fire from many directions.
The four-story building that caught fire, formerly the District 10 Children's House, has been used as a parking lot for nearly three years, managed by the People's Committee of Ward 12. At the time of the incident, there were about 10 cars and ambulances in the building, and nearly 100 motorbikes parked outside.

Mr. Nguyen Hai Phong, Chairman of Ward 12 People's Committee, said the fire started from a private ambulance parked in the parking lot. At that time, the driver was resting in the car, discovered the fire and tried to put it out, but was burned. The fire then spread to the 7-seat car.
"The cause could be an electrical short circuit in the ambulance, which caused a fire to break out when it entered the parking lot," said Mr. Phong, adding that after about 30 minutes, the authorities controlled the fire.
